Okay, I am sure it is not just me but is anyone else having issues with hunter pets taunting off them when the Hunter has the pet taunt turned off? I just need you hunters to understand why its a problem for tanks and why some of us are reminding you in groups. Most tanks rely on that incoming dmg to build rage, and helps with providing additional dmg output. It could very well be the taunt is turned off, however when a tank is telling you your pet is taunting and you reply with a snide remark, it doesn’t help any situation and makes for toxic gameplay. Some tanks may be okay with and that’s fine, play your playstyle but from some of us, it is more of a hassle than anything else.
My pet pulls aggro, even when the taunt is turned off, if the tank is not doing their job tbh.
Oh believe I get that, however with me aggro is not an issue. I usually pay close attention to Omen but when I see the Taunt animation over the head of the mob I just taunted, this is where I am coming from. Thank you for your input for sure!
It’s a bug that’s existed since they added the auto-turn off for auto.
When your pet is summoned or revived, it’ll cast Growl.
It occasionally happens at random as well, but I don’t think we’ve found the trigger for that?
Yep, ever since the new patch my pet will taunt in 5 man content (even though the taunt says it hasnt been used on the pet bar) AAA game company
I always turn it off by habit so haven’t noticed it myself, but if it’s happening randomly by a known bug…you really can’t be upset at the hunters and can only toss up a friendly reminder when it occurs.
Yes, I have noticed it when I tank (and I know how to maintain threat). I also noticed it for myself earlier tonight when I was on a hunter. Growl was definitely off, yet my cat kept pulling off of the tank. And this tank was good… it was just that weird bug.
If the pet’s taunt is turned off that means it is not casting taunt and, by definition, is not taunting. Additionally, when a hunter enters any instance (raid or dungeon) the pet’s taunt is automatically turned off. EVERY TIME. It can’t get forgotten. If the hunter somehow accidentally turns on pet taunt (which would be relatively hard to do) and the pet dies, taunt is automatically turned off again when it is re-summoned.
TO BE COMPLETELY CLEAR: Hunter pets do not taunt at all when pet taunt is turned off.
If you are losing aggo to hunter pets when the hunter has taunt turned off, that is a tanking problem, not a hunter problem.
I say all this because at least one tank has complained at me nonstop that my pet was taunting when it was not. The healer and one of the other DPS also said the pet was not casting taunt and the tank still kept going on about it. I tried to prove it to them by saying to look at the mob’s debuffs, then turned it on and tuned it off. SEE HOW THE DEBUFF IS NOT THERE WHEN IT IS OFF? Bottom line, they were just a crappy tank who couldn’t hold aggo even when I was constantly misdirecting to them and they found themselves on /ignore very quickly.
This is an occasional bug, which I see only very rarely. FWIW, my pet also doesn’t die often in dungeons because it’s not taunting, so it doesn’t need to be revived in combat much.
Still, if a tank can’t handle a single glitched growl, that is still a tank problem.
Yeah I don’t like when people blame the tank, nor the hunter, when it’s a bug. It’s a shame it’s something that had to be fixed and hunters couldn’t just learn to shut off on their own in the first place. Now it’s just a bug causing everyone to blame the other.
I’m sure a BM pet can pull aggro off a tank that’s not paying attention, or busy with other things, but honestly I think people make way too big a deal about this sort of thing anyway. Unless the pet is messing up mob positioning or something, it’s not really an issue. If you’re in content where incoming damage is low enough that you absolutely need every mob on you in order to generate resources…well…it doesn’t really matter if a pet is tanking something at that point.
It may be certain pets that do that. I have a shalehide that sometimes seems to pull it off the tank but in a huge cluster it’s hard to tell.
I know my growl is off because I’ve got Growl on my pet toolbar. Not only to be sure it’s off but I turn it off when killing rares. Especially those that need to be moved. Kinda hard to move one (rare) when it’s being pulled in several different directions.
When Blizzard changed the growl to auto off when entering a dungeon, I still checked to be sure. Habit.
Certainly not saying it hasn’t happened, but I’ve yet to have my pet pull aggro with growl off.
It’s possible someone turned it back on without realizing it.
When I was in the lowbie dungeon earlier, I was using Loque’nahak. I checked and double checked to make sure growl was off. Both myself and another hunter in the group were md’ing to the pally tank. And yet my kitty cat would still rando pull threat. Like… wut lol
Meh. I blame it on lowbie bugs, or something something murloc curses something.
Now my Loki does that as well in lowbie dungeons. Just an awesome pet who wants to be known. lol
I’ve noticed this while playing hunter, even though it’s off, I think there is a check in place for The Hunter player(which is a system check) when they get attacked by a mob, to auto taunt.
Provided if they have received damage in the past few seconds as well.
Usally only happens if i start a dungeon without a pet and summon one. So i got to where when i summon i right click to reactivate the taunt and then again to turn it off, that fixes it 99% of the time
If a pets pulling agrro of a tank then its caz:
-
The hunters trolling and turned growl on. Just ask them to stop. If they dont kick them) and this is comming from a hunter main)
-
The tanks not doing there job with holding agro and he pets somhow got agrro (happens alot woth low lev/sh** tanks)
-
The tank didnt pull/agro all the mobs in the pack and the hunters targeted the non agrroed mob (has happend to me a few times).
All on all the tank should just pull back. Its easy to do, i do it on my tanks when people pull off me
This toggling taunt is absolutely the way to go. I’ve had it happen where taunt was off but I saw the taunt graphic over the pet’s head. Also the taunt seemed to be very strong, like the tank had good aggro… and then suddenly didn’t.
I have only seen it happen twice all up, the first time I thought I must have been confused. The second I know what I saw as I was alert to it.
The habit of toggling taunt back on and then off again maaaaaaaay not do anything, but it makes me feel better to think I’m doing what I can to stop it from happening. And it hasn’t happened since I started doing that, but then it was also a rare thing to start with.
Spread awareness to tanks and hunters alike so they can react accordingly if it happens to them. No need to talk down to people or be a jerk over it.
This is definitely a bug. I noticed it alot when leveling my tank and hunter through dunegons.
I keep growl on my pet bar, and even though it was turned off, my pet will be taunting as if growl is turned on. Mind you, this is after summoning a new pet in a dunegon, so maybe there is a weird code line that turns growl on again after?
I had this issue the other day. Tank(not good one imo) tells me to turn off my pet taunt. I reminded him that it is automatically off upon start of the run. He make snide remark about how they just dont like Cats. I told him a quick look at my gear would show him i had 58% mastery making my pet do 58% more damage. Tanks act like their stuff doesnt stink, and its THEM that are rude and not the Hunters.
I find it happens most often when I’m leveling a new hunter and I level in the dungeon.
