Hunter pet keybinds

Where do you do? I need ideas. I don’t have a 12-button mouse.

They say that keybinds are a personal thing, and I think that’s true, but for sure some will be better than others. I think I’d like to redo my binds at some point, and properly think through a better set up.

Some thoughts though are how you play, which keys you use for movement, hand position, and what’s comfortable for you. I tent to use Shift, Ctrl, and Alt with my binds, and make heavy use of 1,2,3,4,q,w,e,r,a,s,d,f,z,x,c that’s 45 binds (though I do use unmodified “A” and “D” for strafing left and right).

Since I use e.g. 1, shift-1, ctrl-1, alt-1 as separate binds, it means I don’t shift, ctrl, alt modifiers in macros. I also am not making the best use of action bar changes on classes that have them change for different stances.

I don’t now, but I did get one for a while. I don’t like using my mouse thumb for 12 different binds - I found that awkward, but I didn’t spend time to get used to it.

Here are a couple of examples of my binds:

I use Ctrl-E for Pet Growl or Roar of Sacrifice.

#showtooltip
/cast [harm] Growl; Roar of Sacrifice;

And I use this for pet special (mostly CC for PVP or CotW for pve) on Ctrl-D:

#showtooltip
/cast [pet:Monkey] Bad Manner; [pet:Nether Ray] Nether Shock; [pet:Moth] Serenity Dust; [pet:Bird of Prey] Snatch; [nopet] Call Pet 3; Call of the Wild

One big thing I do on all my pet classes is Mouse Wheel up for pet attack, and Mouse Wheel Down to call my pet back. It really makes controlling the pet easy, especially on my hunter.

I use the default Cnt 1-9 for pet control.

Outside of that i have pet attack in my big CDs macro as well as the pets damage CDs.

Hello! Beast Mastery Hunter here.

The importance with pet abilities is that you’re really only going to use shift-1 for attack, shift-2 for follow, and shift-3 for defense. If you do specific have keybinds for your pet just use those for the auto-attack focus. You will never really have your pet on passive because why do that when you can control your pet with shift movement? but also I have macros created that can make your pet more valuable to use in mobile situations. I recommend as well to make a macro for focusing your pet so that you can see his buffs or his health and focus to keep track of how often is abilities have proc, and cooldowns.

#showtooltip
/cast Charge
/cast Kill Command

The cool thing about pet abilities is that they are separate cooldowns from your character, so they can be slotted into a one button macro that can be used twice, charge for your pet, and kill command for yourself. Charge cannot be used in melee range so you don’t have to worry about the macro screwing up your rhythm or dps rotation. However, charge is the most important ability to control your pet as BM because as soon as a tank pulls or you need to reach your target immediately, all you do is press that keybind in your slot once or twice and charge will auto-activate for your pet to immediately jump into range for kill command. A massive burst in initial dps, but you’ll want to activate burst as soon as your pet charges to his target.

#showtooltip
/cast [@pet] Misdirection

This is just simply a good macro to have when doing world content or you have a pet tanking your targets. This will instantly put misdirect on your pet and all aggro goes to him. If you have misdirect glyph you can easily have infinite aggro on your pet as long as you keep activating it.

#showtooltip
/cast Bestial Wrath
/cast Call of the Wild
/cast Rabid
/use Potion of the Tol’vir

This is your burst macro, and I primarily play BM hunter but survival hunters can use these talents. Bestial Wrath is the only one that wouldn’t be slotted into your keybinds if you’re not a BM hunter.

#showtooltip
/cast Dash
/cast Hunter’s Mark
/petattack

This is a neat macro because if you quickly want to switch to a different target, but also not have to separately cast hunters mark, this makes it to where you can cast your pets dash and hunter’s mark at the same time while your pet switches target and automatically attacks. I would not recommend using this before pulls as your pet will run and attack as soon as you cast it.

#showtooltip
/cast [@player]Spirit Mend

If you have Loque’nahak or a spirit beast that uses spirit mend this will target only you the player and give you a small healing regen, quite nice to have for world content.

#showtooltip
/cast Primal Rage

BM hunter only usage so you don’t have to hard click hero when no mages or shaman’s are present.

#showtooltip
/cast [@player] Intervene

My favorite ability to play with when I have my pet tank, instantly charges to you for almost 59’000 absorption and goes into your range if someone else is attacking you. Excellent if you sustain heavy damage and want your tenacity pet to be in range of you.

These are the only macros I use, I am sure if you practice with these keybinds and your pet keybind’s/macro’s you’ll find it easier to control your pet like a true BM hunter. Happy hunting.
