Basically, the title. I’m busy leveling a character to 60 in Classic, to get myself ready for TBC, and I’m having difficulty choosing which to use for my TBC “Main” alongside my planned Draenei Shaman and Paladin.
I know both are going to be hella strong, but I want to know what would be a bit more fun to play overall. Also, tips on professions for the Hunter would be nice, since I know the Warlock’s going to want Tailoring for the one set that’s BIS until BT.
hunter!
profs: alchemy / herb or alchemy / leatherworking
I’m going lock personally because I don’t like the whole pet feeding/ammo management. I find soul shards far less annoying though this is subjective. I tend to favor casters anyways.
I’m gonna be playing my mage/lock/and probably a pally farmer because face taking a million mobs is fun even without the profits.
Yeah, the Ammo/Pet management’s got me a little worried, but I think I can handle it. Plus, Hunters can get access to the Legendary bow, while Warlocks can use Atiesh for portals to the Kara raid…

It’s completely manageable, don’t let me scare you. I just personally find it to be way more annoying than it actually is haha.
Ammo is easy to manage. So is your pets food. Just get the best quiver and fill it up keep some in the bank too if ya want. Food is easy as hell just find a meat vendor. I keep around 80 meat and rarely need to restock since my pet barely eats cause we are best friends. Pets eat a lot less the higher the affection lvl.

Np both are good. But I prefer hunter overall mainly cause you can tame most species as your pet
Lock because than youre not a meme in pvp.

Thankfully, I don’t intend to play PvP at any point.
Then pick which 1 u have fun with lol.
Idk why anyone would even ask a forum what class to play, as if they arent gonna say both for numerous reasons but at the end of the day no one knows what YOU have fun with.
You might not like any of them.

You should definitely roll a lock. Seed of Corruption is so much fun to use in TBC.
It’s far more convenient than soul shards. Especially if you want to PvP.
Couchy
I went with LW/ENG on my Alliance dwarf hunter for the pvp aspect and also the Leather gear.
low levels the Eng really helped with making your own ammo and scopes and generally your damage was beast mode. great on a pvp server
I’ve been trying to make this same exact decision as well for the past month. I’m still undecided and keep flipping back and forth.
The bm hunter is probably the easiest spec in the game to play in pve. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnoOnmW-0Bs
You literally just spam a one button macro and do great dps. In dungeons you may be required to trap a mob here and there. The pet management and arrow management to me is probably easier than soulshards. Once your pet becomes best friends they eat very little. One stack of meat will last you a long time. You will run out of arrows one time and that’ll be your last. It becomes second nature like repairing your gear when in town to just buy arrows.
Lock has a bit more going on. There’s like 3-4 different builds to use throughout tbc and all of them are significantly more in depth compared to the bm hunter rotation. You can burn through soul shards drastically faster than you can a quiver full of arrows. You also need to make sure you got a bag full of shards before raids to help out with healthstones, summoning teammates and resummoning your pets. TBC is filled with demons as well so you will be enslave and banishing mobs a bit. The Mag fight you need a few warlocks to banish the infernos as they get summoned. Locks also get invited to spell cleave dungeon farms with rain of fire/hellfire/seed of corruption.
It comes down to whether you want simplicity or complexity. If you will get bored playing a simple class then pick lock. If you want to just casually play off and on and still be somewhat viable then go with bm hunter.

hunter. you don’t need to worry about shards. you don’t need to summon. you don’t need to hand out health stones. feign death is still one of the most useful spells in the game.

I can never choose because I love both classes.
Hunter pets tank way better than locks voidwalker if that matters to you.
On hunter I would go mining/engineering to make your own ammo but if you don’t pvp the rest of engineering can be meh.
Overall locks are easier to gear IMO because they don’t have weapon competition from shaman, rogues, and (warriors somewhat).
Still I can never choose one so I have always played both.
