Hunter for wrath

Hello everyone. I want to give the hunter class another shot. I got discouraged because I probably was a bit spoiled with retail. I do want to try because there are benefits to having a pet to help. Any ways to get around the more tedious features or at least make them easier? Like pet food and feeding, how to keep a steady supply of ammo without spending too much money, mana management, and also if I should have a 2H weapon or a 1h weapon. Should k not have a melee weapon at all? Can your pet still run away if they are unhappy for too long? What’s the best way to keep them happy and have a steady supply of food? I probably won’t have too many pets. Maybe just one or two. So I’m not sure if the beast mastery spec is for me but I still want to have the pet around and pull its weight in battle. Would a mix of survival and beast mastery work?

For some reason, my pet RARELY if ever gets unhappy now.

There is also a Mend Pet glyph that gives it some happiness everytime you heal it. Since then I don’t think I’ve ever fed Charley.

Quivers are gone, so now you get all bag slots! Ammo used to be 200 per stack, now its 1,000, letting you carry quite a few less!

Aspect of the Viper makes it easy, if you feed your toon gear, you could probably just ride Viper, though this version is even stronger than TBC.

Purely stat sticks. Though if you like to PvP, 2H for big Raptor/Mongoose hits.

All specs are fun. Slap some heirlooms on them, mana pots are worth coppers, go have fun.

Really? Quivers don’t exist in wrath? I recall doing leather working for a bit and I could still make quivers or bullet pouches. And how would you go about getting those glyphs? Thanks for all the info.

Just check the ah. Some glyphs go for more than others, especially the end game ones, or the ones that are juet super duper convenient.

You could also level inscription and hope that you learn the glyphs early on enough that you can put them to use yourself, but I don’t know enough about scribes to suggest anything of the sort.

I’m leveling a Hunter now, I was also put off by ammo management and feeding my pet but it’s not actually that big a deal. My wolf dies so infrequently that any time I do need to feed it once to get it back to max happiness I’ve already collected 2 full stacks of meat just from questing

As for ammo, it stacks up to 1000 and only costs a few copper per 200, so I usually just buy 2 full stacks and that’s more than enough to last me until I return to town to restock

Huh, maybe they changed a few things for wrath. I distinctly remember that I foundry go more than 15 minutes without the pets mood changing from very happy to just content. And since mood sort of effects it’s battle prowess…. I didn’t like it. Or maybe I’m just being weird and feeding it when I really don’t need to

maining a hunter in wrath. also mained one in classic. you dont need to use a quiver and the pet feeding mechanic is way less of a headache now. my pet also rarely gets unhappy unless he dies a bunch.

also hunters (and shamans) are one of the least played classes right now esp on the fresh realms so its pretty easy to gear up

Ah okay. So having no quiver isn’t a big deal? J remember that having one was required because it granted you extra speed with your bow or gun. But I’d having a quiver user too essential for max level content such as dungeons and raids, then there a load off my back

I’m not using one at all right now. there’s no speed boost anymore from what i understand. you do have to sacrifice some bag slots for ammo ofc. its annoying but not THAT bad to me

Alright thanks! You think I should take up engeneerimg to keep my ammo stocked up and save money? Or is buying max level ammo not as expensive as I’m imagining?

Yeah since quivers don’t give any bonus anymore there’s no point in taking up the bag slot when you can instead use a Netherweave Bag, take up a couple slots for ammo in that, and still have 14 more to hold whatever else

Hunters are just “okay” in Wrath, they only really excel in Cata/MoP due to the focus bar and having better abilities that are more hunter themed.

Wrath Hunters start off as Survival in PvE and then transition to MM once they get more ArP, they are pretty good but not really S tier and they are more so brought for their utility like MD/Traps than anything else.

I mained hunter personally from Vanilla to now and I can’t get behind Wrath hunter tbh, all 3 specs just feel not as fluid or impactful as previous expansions or future expansions so it’s def a weird spot to be a hunter which is why you don’t see a lot of them.

Its not that expensive. max level ammo is like 30 silver for 200. on my server 1000 stack of saronite arrows sells for <1g-3g depending on the day so thats entirely up to you. i am an engineer tho. sorry for typos

and soaking up DPS mail drops

Interesting. When I asked about warriors in a other thread in terms of end game prowess for dungeons and raids, one guy essentially said warrior aren’t that great either. But maybe I’m too hyper focused on end game stuff and should just enjoy what I play regardless of utility lol

I remember the Ammo/Arrow Crates in Wrath were actually used end game. Since a Crate held quite a bit of ammo, people would just carry a crate around instead of a ton of ammo and opened it as they needed it.

Yeah true, someone’s gotta pick up those drops lol and no one really plays enhance so it’s free hunter loot.

yeah warriors, MM hunter, and shadow priest are my preferred classes. i love to be mid

As a Fury with really good raid gear and almost BiS the DPS is really low compared to every other spec, i’m probably gonna bench this dude until ICC time lmao there’s no reason to force people to carry me through raids it feels like as a Warr.

Hunter is different, it stays relevant throughout the xpac.

I’m pretty sure there’s some talent in the pet tree that gives them happiness every time they use growl. If you take that, you don’t really need to feed the pet.
