You want hunters to stop exclusively using Beast Mastery?
Swap Master Marksman to legs and Kill Command to chest.
Buff Kill Command back to its original state.
Make Flanking Strike turn Raptor Strike into an instant ability with a 4 second cd, and make it interact with Carve instead of Mongoose Bite.
Buff Carve to do more damage when there is only 1 target.
As a result:
MM gets the help it desperately needs.
Beast Mastery cannot be used with Kill Command without sacrificing both pet and hunter stats, and Kill Command is now a tempting selection instead of a dead rune.
Melee hunter now has a possibility of viability, and a reason to take Carve over Beast Mastery.
I think people would prefer this over the awful nerf path we’re headed down. Incentivize other forms of play, and provide actual compensation for the lost damage on Beast Mastery.
That just means that no hunter will be using kings, furthering the divide between horde and alliance negating the reason for giving hunters kings in the first place.
That’s not true. The trade off is a smaller more spread out amount of pet damage and more survivability, or burst pet damage. Hunters who take Kill Command are easier to kill, but deal more damage when the cooldown is up.
Could just make Beast Mastery compete with Apsect of the Lion. That would already force other choices. These seem to be the “big two” Hunter runes that provide so much benefit they aren’t worth switching out of.
It would also put Lone Wolf vs Beast Mastery which to me makes more sense.
Simply move Master Marksman or Cobra Strike to gloves (possibly Cobra to spread the pet interactive runes around)

Just makes it easier to identify which hunters you want to take in your group or not. The current “Lion is best even if someone else brings Lion” design is obviously not a great one and needs better competition.
Master marksman on gloves is pointless. Defeats the entire purpose of the rune.
Putting Beast Mastery on chest could work, but Kill Command would have to be moved off legs to gloves. You wouldn’t want BM to have KC and Chimera shot. My worry is by putting BM on chest that you’ve now killed BM completely.
Not sure I quite follow, but following your logic, how does BM to chest, Cobra Strikes to Legs, and KC to gloves sound?
Can still take all the pet, MM, or melee related runes together if desired, BM, AotL, and Lone Wolf compete (Lone Wolf probably needs a buff though), and KC now competes against Chimera Shot.
Obviously adjustments where required would be expected.
as a lone wolf enjoyer, i enjoy killing other hunters more than any other class. the class really does attract the clickers and mechanically challenged. threads like these are a win/win for me, because you’re inadvertently turning lone wolf into a monster. which is fine it’ll likely never get nerfed because it’s too hard to play for 99% of the class. ty?
Ya unfortunately Hunter’s haven’t gotten any fun to play runes yet. There’s passive stats, passive pet dps, and an extra melee hit on a 30 sec CD. I mained a Hunter since Classic launch and I can’t see that staying the case while other classes like Druids and Shamans getting actual fun to press buttons and interesting hybrid builds.
chimera shot is great and has 3 uses.
explosive shot is aoe with scaling
serpent spread is amazing
we never had anything this cool in vanilla…
then there’s the melee runes for your “interesting hybrid builds” which you completely ignore.

you guys have no idea what you’re talking about. hunters have lots of new stuff, except you’re off stuck playing with your wind serpents and BM because it was op and you cry and complain the class is the same ol’ pet class…
all this class needs is a combat trap rune. some cool laced ammo flavors rune, a double pet BM rune, a melee required dash rune, and a camouflage rune and we are livin the dream.
Chimera shot would be better if it consumed the sting. Instead of damage with serpent sting it applied mortal strike. Instead of mana with viper it silenced.
Refreshing the sting in pvp is really bad for freezing trap and scatter shot.
Serpent spread does not increase the targets hit on multi shot and it adds about 30 damage over 6 seconds.
30 damage is nothing, and it wont be going up much either.
If serpent spread removed the target limit on multi shot to be all targets in 8 yards of the target, then it would be stromg for what it is designed for.
AND if using chimera shot it overrides the full damage serpent sting on your main target, and when you hit the target with serpent sting on it with chimera it does the 40% bonus damage for those 6 seconds only and refreshes serpent sting to 15 second duration but is only doing that 6 second serpent sting damage over the duration of that 15 seconds.
lots of abilities can use some tuning, serpent spread scales with spell power, swap it to AP and we’re golden. it’s still a cool addition, we’re discussing the function of runes here not their power.
serpent spread, lone wolf, and explosive shot are literally the best 5 man combo in the game right now. even beats the 1 minute mage.
Literally just buff marksman to 10% crit and they may be close to warriors again with the bugged untouched deep wounds. Make sniper training 3 seconds instead of 6. Problem solved, hunters would be back where they are suppose to be at this bracket.
Serpent sting scales with spell power serpent spread applies 6 second serpent sting.
A large part of why serpent spread is worthless is because serpet sting is worthless.
Its a 2-3 dps dot that lasts 15 seconds. Blozzard was extreamly lazy with hunter runes.
Dis you know sniper training only gives that 10% crit to abilities used? It has 0 effect on auto shot crit chance, and that is most of the hunters ranged damage.
that’s the only bad rune. shouldnt exist, or at least be 50%.
serpent spread is already a main rune used in the best 5man build in the game, im tempted to roll a full spellpower suit to meme it up and post some numbers from SS.
also note that they just changed ES to scale with AP, so why not ask them to do the same for runes you think are bad, like SS?
