Hunter Class Design Needs Drastic Modernization

Remove multishot for BM. Add beast cleave to kill cleave. Kill cleave replaces kill command.

Would be a good starting point.

I want a viable single pet BM build
Lust on hunter
The pet talent tree back OR being able to set pet specs again

and i’d rather not have a considerable amount of my power couched into a pet with terrible ai but we can’t all have what we want

Then you probably shouldn’t main a spec that’s designed around pets and called “beast master”

well that’s the thing, i main survival :sunglasses:

I play every spec in the game (huge alt problem) and in my opinion hunter is the least fun class in the game, and has been for at least a decade. And this is coming from someone who mained hunter from vanilla - wotlk.

I don’t know how Blizzard got one of the most popular videogame archtypes so wrong, but they sure did. It is abundantly clear that no one on staff actually likes the hunter class, because no one that likes hunters would let it play how it does today.

Every single expansion they do things that make the class even worse. Making 2 out of 3 hero specs lean so hard into elf races means I will never play hunter again. Its a disgrace what they’ve done to this class.

Not to mention - all 3 hunter specs used to be about you and your one pet. You fought at range, and your bonded pet fought with you. Now exactly zero hunter specs do optimal DPS at range with a single pet. Its the only class in the game that has completely thrown out it’s original class fantasy.

It’s a joke class.

Y do people always post this kinda stuff on a lvl 10 alt lmfao but joking aside please shut up cause hunter is in 1 of its best pvp states atm and I can promise u any troubke ur having is a skill issue not a class or spec issue.

A lot of EU people do that

its funny when people think there is a Hunter Class Designer. They lay off the good one on 7.2 then this class is design by random people with small change. They don’t even play hunter.

Hi! I’m from EU. If I could use my main character I would.

Some people don’t want to be harassed in game from the forums

because people are toxic and will contact you in game lmao has happened before

Pack Leader doesn’t inherently summon more pets through the hero tree but resetting Kill Command cooldown gives more chances to proc Dire Command leading to more dire beasts being summoned overall compared to 10% chance for a dark hound only during Black Arrow window

Hot take but idc, I don’t think Hunters should even have lust. I would much rather have a modernized dynamic hunting party buff back.

Procs on our crits like it did in the past but It buffs your highest secondary stat so no matter what it buffs everyone the appropriate way. That’s pretty unique right?

Thank you for this post. I have been playing roughly as long as you have and broadly agree with the points you’ve raised. I would add that we need a modernization of playstyle and flavour in general.

The hero talents did virtually nothing in this regard. For all the potential flavour opportunities, Sentinel (for example) could just be replaced with a flat % damage increase buff and not noticed (except for the lack of occasional screeching).

Survival is getting it the hardest right now (one of the reasons it’s one of the least played specs). I was actually in favour of moving to the melee polearm style to differentiate it, but so many years later it’s not clear what they want the fantasy of survival to BE.

You’re basically a less effective goblin engineer arms warrior, with a pet, who has a little crossbow they pull out sometimes, and you can throw a trap at the enemy’s face (which is how traps are supposed to work?). The kit is all over the place, it lacks focus (pun intended), and has no clear identity or fantasy.

Honestly I wish they’d bring back throwing weapons (who still remembers those?), and make it a hybrid glaive swinging/throwing spec with Lone Wolf as an option. This would let us recreate core WC3 fantasies like the NE huntress, troll Shadowhunters, even BE spellbreakers to some extent.

Survival rant aside, the class feels like it needs a dev to care about it (although I’ve been saying this since BC).

I agree, especially on Lust.

Thanks for such a great thought-out reply! I have the least experience with survival especially with the recent rework. You bring up some great examples though, thanks for your additions

thats kind of the problem with hunter is that it’s so one dimensional as a class compared to others. bm is just “guy with bow with 2 pets”, mm is “guy with bow with no pet”, sv is “guy with spear and 1 pet” compared to something like warrior:

arms are fighters that use battle tactics leveraged by brute force, fury is the bloodthirsty barbarian, and prot is your average sword and board fighter guy. now when you compare these 3, they’re much more varied in terms of aesthetic (using the descriptions i gave, you’d likely think of 3 unique different types of people) whereas hunter is just…??? there’s no real substance to it beyond “guy who hunts beasts and also tames and does minor stuff with nature.” now if they had went with making hunter into a ranger (like from D&D), there would be much more that could set it apart

“arms is a guy with 1 big sword, fury is a guy with 2 big swords, prot is a guy with 1 small sword nd a shield”

This is fun, what class are we going to do next ?

Ah yes, the class well liked in dnd for it’s …
I’m sure it’s something, it’s not the toolkit or flavor but def something.

This just means we lose one or the other of Survival of the Fittest and Fortitude of the Bear. Master’s sees virtually no use in PvE, and there are plenty other classes to bring Lust.
