Hunter Base Sitting

What’s the strategy generally? I’m new to hunter. Sit in camo? Keep the pet near the flag? Use the pet to stop sap cap? Flare over the flag? Put a trap or traps on the flag?

You can’t “sit in camo.” Download BGEnemies addon so you know when stealth classes are in stealth or not, and what base they are last seen at. Keep pet and traps on flag if you want. Ice trap should probably be on yourself for opener, because you will be killed not CC’d. Micro the pet when sapped to stop cap. After that its a duel with the rogue and you need to be screaming to your team for backup. Flare near you IMO

Yea put the trap behind you so when you destealth them and they use their cheaty subterfuge shadowstep to CS you, they get frozen or burn trink.

yes you can “sit in camo” as a night elf. no pet for more pewpew. take the covenant that lets you shoot through walls.

I’m Troll I’m afraid. Camo doesn’t play into it all then? I would think you would want the pet to be able to spin for you when you are CC’d.

Aim to protect yourself. At least long enough to get peels. Save camo for when trinket it down to avoid a vanish sap u blind pet n cap.
95% of bases I take from hunters is because they flop on defensives and die before peels.

Also when you turtle. Stay on flag. I’ve had hunters pull pet and turtle only to run and get smoke bomb capped

But again its usually the 1v1 so just make sure you yell for peels. With proper traps and kiting and defensives you should be able to last long enough

Edit: hunters don’t do this enough…
Whenever a zerker pops. Grab it and dispel it on yourself. Even if you see it vanish and you call for peels. Its probably too late

You can’t keep camo up indefinitely. It’s better to use it when you see or think someone is headed your way, or to have it for a fight if you need to stall waiting for support. Obviously keep track humanoids, beasts, and track hidden on and call incs early.

Don’t trinket for sap/cap, stop it with your pet. If they sap you and blind your pet then feel free to trinket if necessary (you should have called for help already), but if you’re positioned correctly you won’t need to trinket because they won’t have enough time to cap before your sap wears off. If you have a cat or pet that can sit stealth it is almost impossible to solo ninja cap vs a hunter.

I rarely keep flare on the flag. Use it on yourself if you’re solo and out of stealth, or in an area you think they’ll approach from. Traps on flag are fine, but trapping on yourself is often better.

Also, don’t sit right on the flag. This is the mistake that most people make when guarding a flag. It makes sap/capping so much easier for rogues if you’re right on the flag. You should be far enough away that they have to run back to the flag after sapping you, which means they don’t have enough time to cap the flag during the sap. If you’ve prevented the sap/cap and are now fighting the rogue, keep your distance from flag so they can’t just vanish/reset and sap/cap after they get your trinket. If they try to smoke bomb cap then just use your pet to stop it or toss in a freezing/explosive trap.

I don’t have a means to gauge exact distance. But about maybe ~30yrds? You can stop the sprint>sap>bomb cap.

20yrds maybe? Not really sure tbh

I usually try to sit at least 30 yards away from flag, usually not much reason to be closer. IIRC sap has a 10 yd range and blind is 15 yds. Outlaw has access to the “Blinding Powder” talent that increases blinds range by 15 yds, but you won’t encounter that often with sub being fotm right now.

Edit: Your traps have a 40 yard range, so you can use their targeting circle as a distance gauge if you need to get a feel for it. Just step back until your trap target circle is right on the flag and then take a couple steps closer.

Why not be max range from the flag though?

Other hunters criticize how I flag sit, but I don’t care, I’m pretty good at it. If it’s a map I have to sit a base I make sure I have barrage on. It’s an excellent tool for chasing off druids and other stealthies. It doesn’t do much damage unless you’re at a choke point (like AV) but it serves a purpose. Also EOTS, I prefer to sit mid, but usually have to sit a base. Camo is the second most important tool in my arsenal.

You can, I’m just saying don’t sit right on top of flag like most people. You can sit 80 yards away and keep someone off the flag with pet if you wanted, as long as your pets not getting ccd.
