His ideals are the Alliance ideals. The faction leaders were according to Blizzard suppose to represent the best and worse about the races. Similarly, I would say the leaders of the Alliance/Horde represents the best and worse of said factions.
In the times when he does try to help Garrosh/Sylvanas he did not put his people in danger. Sure him saving Garrosh from being poisoned ultimately led to a string of events that did lead him living and creating his Iron Horde, having said that I don’t think anyone could possibly have the foresight to know that.
As for his interactions with Sylvanas, he was mostly a prisoner of hers and trying to reason with her.
And yet he didn’t and ultimately probably helped delay if not outright stop one of the Jailer’s plans.
Yes. Genn followed his gut instincts and they turned out to be right but at the time he couldn’t possibly know that nor did he care. All he cared for was his desire for revenge.
And I don’t blame him but you say it yourself, he was lucky. Neither did his actions cause the next faction war nor was it the final straw that sealed Sylvanas’ pact with the Jailer when she saw all her hopes dashed ( and I still think this would have been the more interesting story but alas, it is what it is )
Genn was made right in retrospect but that doesn’t make it a genius move. He could have been wrong, and with disastrous consequences.
And if he did nothing the Jailer’s plan would have been that much quicker/easier to achieve. Its not exactly a hard bet to assume Sylvanas was doing something shady.
I’ve mentioned it before but nothing was funnier to me than the Red BFA opener. At a point you’re hiding right next to Anduin and it’s framed as this “Don’t. Even. Breathe” tense moment.
But is it really?
WTF is Honest Andy gonna do? Treat me humanly, give me a fair trial and then probably let me go anyway because he see’s the goodness in my heart or whatever?
Blizz. You seem to have forgotten the SW leader is a labrador retriever puppy that walks like a man. He can’t be that and intimidating unless you’ve the worlds weirdest phobia.
Honestly, what even was that? It’s not like we were doing something so clandestine and complicated that the Horde character was a security risk even if they “talked”. Not to mention that, yeah, this is Anduin’s kingdom. And Zul and Saurfang weren’t exactly tortured beyond the limits of “human” endurance while held captive in Stormwind. Even considering what Saurfang had just participated in. What was the most dire consquence there? Being bored? Running out of light to make shadow puppets with? Having to talk to Anduin until all your deepest insecurities and fears spilled out? He does seem to be canonically cursed with “tell me all your problems” face.
Wish I could’ve canonically downed the suicide potion the instant it was given to the character in Orgrimmar.
But on a meta level, I assume the real purpose of the item was as a reset button in case you somehow got stuck somewhere in the instance, without having to start the whole thing over.
Do you think Odyn would have given us the Aegis if Sylvanas had been holding Eyir hostage? Probably would have demanded her return in exchange for it even if we had defeated whats his name. so could have lead to an even larger war if Genn hadn’t stopped her there and then.
The Forsaken were aware of Sylvanas plans just not that she was getting the Valkyr for. The captains notebook from Azshara makes it clear they were aware she was going after the Valkyr and not the legion. They just thought it was to secure the forsakens future and not for her own purposes.
No, It has been clear for a while that Sylvanas couldn’t be trusted and was up to no good. Just some people are just blind to it because they seem think she was someone she wasn’t. She has never really cared for the Horde and the Fosaken, she or just playing them all and using them her own purposes.
It wasn’t blind luck that lead Genn to being right, It was an educated decision. It is more like Anduin had blind hope that the Horde weren’t upto no good, Genn simply new better.
How hard is it to base a fantasy kingdom on the Holy Roman Empire or Feudal France? That’s what Warcraft’s inspiration and despite them having an army of Vampirates I love almost as much as the Forsaken, I’m still guilty of;
And yeah that is because The Empire is blatantly German but look me in the eye and tell me what isn’t improved by absurdly ornate hats?
The backstory that turned the Craftmasons into the Defias, the secret harboring of the Scarlet Crusade within the Cathedral as well as the darkening of Duskwood, the neglect of Westfall, show that the Human kingdom of Stormwind is far from wearing unsullied White Hats.
All of those things were cultivated by demons, black dragons, and other supernatural forces of evil.
Am I saying that is good storytellings? No, but that is the lore we have. The problem with humans in the lore is they are boring. You know what would make them less boring? If they were this imperialistic entity that has these problems as a consequence, and use the players to enforce the will of the Empire. And the story can portray that as evil and oppressive, or practically ambitious in context of Azeroth’s political landscape, so on.
But they don’t. Every single thing has an excuse. An outside influence pulling the strings. Which makes WoW Humans appear as these blank slates that just adopts the morality and culture of whatever is story convenient at the them.
That applies equally to the Horde experience. There are no real choices in this game for anyone. You either follow the arrow or you’re not playing the campaign. A pretty standard situation for any game.
