I agree. That gets annoying in rpgs.

And in this universe, humans are mutated offspring of giant robots, sooooo…

I know. That’s why it’s silly to tie new customizations to other zones as justification for minorities to be put into games like these. It’s nice that they don’t need a lore reason, they just exist without an excuse. I am glad blizzard did it that way.

I forget who said it. But, the way one person put it was basically-

  • Humans are Mutants. → How did the Human race as we know it get so many different skin colorations? → Mutation from the Curse of Flesh. → How did they get to the Eastern Kingdoms? → Their Vrykul Parents disobeyed King Ymiron’s orders to kill their malformed offspring and brought them to the Eastern Kingdoms to live rather than be killed. → How did all the Humans come together? → The Arathorian Empire which was made in response to the threat of Trolls and they’re primarily made up Arathi, Alteraci, & Lordain Human Tribes. The Empire of Arathor would eventually break apart into the seven Human Kingdoms; Kingdom of Lordaeron, Kingdom of Alterac, Kingdom of Dalaran, Kingdom of Gilneas, Kingdom of Kul Tiras (formerly Gilneans that sailed to settle on Kul Tiras), Kingdom of Stromgarde (the most direct descendants of the Arathorian Empire), and the Kingdom of Azeroth (aka Kingdom of Stormwind which were primarily settlers from Arathi.)

So, unless Blizzard really wants to put on a big sell and really twist some things. All Humans in World of Warcraft, regardless of Skin Color/Facial Structure/Whatever other Human Feature you wish to put forward, all stem from Vrykul that refused to kill our in-universe ancestors which they brought to the Eastern Kingdoms. No more, no less, it’s all just the Curse of Flesh.

If a tremendous amount of diversity existed within a single race (ie humans), it would make sense for a larger amount of diversity to exist within other races as well (from a lore/world-building perspective). Several existing examples that could be further developed:

  • The different Draenor Orc clans
  • The regular Draenei vs. Lightforged Dranei vs. Remnant Eredar from the Burning Legion
  • Blood Elves vs. Void Elves vs. High Elves (hot topic, I know…)
  • Night Elves vs. Night Borne vs. other remnant Night Elves from Azshara’s empire
  • Wandering Isle Pandaren vs. Pandaria Pandaren (and perhaps further for Houjin vs. Tushui)
  • Tauren vs. Highmountain vs. Yaungol etc

I think it’d make the various playable non-human races significantly more interesting to offer more dramatic customization options (currently it’s just a matter of color, face, and hairstyle for most… though the addition of jewelry in a nice touch that they’ve been adding in as of late).

makes sense

Good day, all! I thought I’d start off with another Human City Point of Origin customization concept of mine, this time from the Highlands of Stromgarde.

Stromgarde (Standard Adventurer)

Highlands Priest

Orc Stalker Barbarian

Valley Ranger

Stromgarde Order of Dawn Paladin

(Class Idea!!) Highlands Bard

World Traveler Windwalker

I’ll be back later this evening with some scar ideas and another City Point of Origin.

I have several Asian inspired hairstyles and features coming up (and a few that have already been posted). As for the League styles…I think that they are way out of the realm of WoW design. I truly mean no offense to Blizzard, but there’s a reason even non gamers rock Riot gear and videos.

I’m with you dude, I think it would be awesome to make characters from different locations as well. If you’d like to have a look, I’ve posted some customization options for the various Human cities and strongholds in WoW. They’re in the third post of this thread, the ‘Points of Origin’ collections I have there. So far I’ve done six, I’ve got several more to add this week.

However, don’t think of the Humans in cities other than Stormwind as ‘separate races’ (and especially avoid the ‘sub’ qualifier for any race). Please don’t think I’m calling you out or anything, I just wanted to clarify that bit. Humans in WoW don’t see themselves as separate races, they see themselves all as Human. I love that.

The larger cities and maps are treated as diverse megacities by Blizzard, rather than justifications for what would pass as ethnic divides in the real world. That’s why the concepts I post for different locales have a diversity of faces and classes: in WoW, it doesn’t matter to Humans. We’re all the babies that Vrykuls tossed off the mountains for not being super buff

These are dope choices. Maybe blizz will get off their dumpers and implement some of these?

Love the vitiligo and albinism examples you’ve shown! Let’s hope they continue to take suggestions.

Thank you! And, we can only hope. To be blunt, they’ve got to get the rest of their house in order, first. I won’t engage it here, I want this to be a positive page.

And in the spirit of positivity, here’s some customizations that inspired me to create this thread in the first place…

Halfhill / Jade Forest (Classic Adventurer / Mythpunk Style)

Shang Xi Academy Mage

Shang Xi Shadow Priest

Kul Tiran Tian Monastery Windwalker

Jade Serpent Temple Windwalker

Halfhill Hometown Paladin

Warrior of the Steppes

Desecrated Temple Death Knight

Jade Forest Wandering Shaman

(aka, give me a freaking human shaman already, Blizzard!!)

All these themes you show are so amazing. I wish my humans could look like that.

What if I wanted customization of JRPG games character?

I don’t think WoW could ever achieve that level of customizations… its just not built that way but they can surely do a great deal more than we have now.

Then what do I care about customization, if there is not for everyone then.

My thanks, friend! I’m really glad the ideas are going over so well. I have one or two more Point of Origin customization ideas left; I’ll likely drop one after I get done with school tonight. I’ve signed up for a couple of coding courses for next semester, and I’ve picked up a bunch of stuff for the Unity program and a training course for it as well. May as well take my hobby more serious

What did you have in mind? Give me some details on what it is you like, and we can see what’s out there.

Not for me to say why you care about it or not.

Request what you will.

I was just commenting more on the base WoW system than trying to say you couldn’t or shouldn’t request it.

I meant nothing against you.
