Huge nerf to solo/outdoor gear progression in DF Season 1

Nobody’s actually said that they don’t think world content could be improved, just that the rewards from it should be appropriate based on how challenging it is. That’s in-line with how rewards work in instanced content too.

Warhammer Online amirite ?

Seriously though, Blizzard was actually going for a license to Warhammer, they just failed to acquire it and rebranded into their own universe instead. It’s not a rip off so much as it was an attempt to make a Warhammer game.

This is detailed by the guy who started the Warcraft project at Blizzard in a 3 part blog about the origins of the game :

Really interesting read.

Yeah I knew all that, which is I said it, albeit in a silly way to mimic the person I was responding to. Still, it is indeed interesting!

I know of at least two people in this thread alone who have responded with the simple retort that if I want engaging content, then I should play PvP, raids, M+ instead of open world content. So unless I am reading that incorrectly, it certainly seems like people are insinuating that they don’t see it as all that important.

It has to do with my feelings.

um it says I have two replies. Yours and someone else’s (in this thread) and I’m not willing to scroll and see who the second person is.

They really need to fix that.

Ok, I’ll amend to almost nobody said that. Obviously it’s impossible to have a unanimous opinion.

Sure, but when the people who have said such a thing are some of the most vocal people in this thread and there are a number of people in agreement with them, it’s a bit hard to ignore.

I have always said that Blizzard should make open world content more engaging. That is really the crux of the issue here. The only reason why I have ever suggested an expansion of Blizzard’s gearing system to other content avenues besides raiding and M+ is because that is the design philosophy Blizzard wants to focus so heavily. They want the reward of playing this game to be gear, then they should expand on the gearing progression system instead of limiting it and making it feel counterintuitive to the general feel of the game.

But that’s only 1/2 of my argument. The other half seems to be consistently ignored so that the other half can be taken out of context.

An excellent, open world activity that could grant cool cosmetics like gear, mounts, pets, toys etc is Archaeology. But oh well.

Hopefully after the loose even more casuals and subs absolutely crater we can get some new devs that actually understand the modem mmo landscape and not just

Xpac, 3 raid tiers, xpac, 3 raid tiers… the occasional zone added….

Kill the same 8 bosses 25 times, do it again, do it again, reset, xpac.

When character progression is purely measured by ilvl and that ilvl is reset every two years what do you really progress. And on top of that who honestly finds it fun and engaging to kill a boss that requires 13 addons, has 10 phases and takes 20 minutes to kill. Seriously who finds this fun year over year? 10 million subs at the peak of wrath to less than a million?

Apparently it’s a failing business model

Well without seeing the actual posts/replies you’re referring to it’s hard to comment on that.

It’s also worth noting that there’s a whole lot of people asking for just better rewards and not any different content.

Lots of casual types on the forum use the word “content” when what they usually mean is “gear”.

“I want content that’s engaging, like farming mats and doing a few quests that then lets me summon a boss”
“Like the fish boss in ZM ?”
“NO THAT DOESN’T REWARD ILVL 311 GAVEL THAT’S BAD!”.

:expressionless:

You shouldn’t get raid level gear from open world content. This is a simple concept. If you don’t get this, maybe mmos are not the genre for you.

You just won the “most delusional reply of the year” award!

Claim the prize at any inn in the game.

Congratulations!!

Recalling the uproar about Archivist 233s is not “delusional”. But you’re in denial if you pretend it didn’t happen.

I only seen people complain about how long it took to get to level 6 research. It was time gated, and it took far more time than 28 days. You got 1 campaign chapter per week. So it was virtually impossible to get 233 in 28 days. I should know, that was my main content!

And then you will demand that difficulty be queueable as well. You just don’t get it. You want the entire game to be accessible to everyone. This ignores the cold hard truth that we are not all equal in ability. You call those that are just better at the game elitist for wanting to be challenged. Basically you call everyone selfish when you are in fact 1 of the most selfish persons in this tread.

Sounds like a buff to solo play to me. They just took weeks of content and turned it into months of content… WOW!

Ehh sometimes LFR has a good color version for your transmog… Gota look good…

Yes, hence you know when they say “We should have a long grind for gear”, they’re basically lying since they spat on the long grind for gear that was Archivist gear.

Glad you came to your senses.

This is false, people grinded it out. It was only time gated if you stuck to not farming all rares every day.
