They still required player power to complete. Gold Saucer offers a ton of activities and neither requires player power, nor does it offer player power (it’s all cosmetic). There is no equivalent in WoW that comes close. We need a Gold Saucer in wow.
The same “go kill x to do y” pattern in WoW has gotten old, and when people see their gear rewards (because that’s what everything in this game is centered around - gear) gets nerfed, you’ll get complaints like these.
To be fair, they were quite boring or in the case of Disciple of Humility, quite overtuned/broken for the entire expansion.
Ember court is basically a 20 minute scenario where you afk 15 of them after completing all the chores and waiting on other chores to finally start. Abom factory is just a bunch of weeklies you skip because you’re already swimming in mats and the piece of transmog is so rare and rng you can go 2 weeks without getting one.
Disciple of Humility was a special one, that is definately not casual content. Some of the fights on some of the soulbinds are definitely overtuned, to the point the few guides there are for them literally focus on how to exploit/reset/remove mechanics instead of how to do it cleanly. It had the potential to be a good brawler’s guild, but instead ended up being more an exercise in waiting for the right RNG (the Lich’s Death Blossom is entirely based on getting a path near you for each ring to win).
I used to be pretty gud but idc wut you or anyone on the forums think. I’ve played with casuals to top. Ppl add you when ur a good tank and heals and when I’m not silly I was rarely turned away.
I do feel bad for ppl who only pug and find groups that want meta or intolerant folks. Ppl need to communicate more in pugging on what they’re after.
If you do not have a regular group to run with start building your friend list.
The Darkmoon Faire is the closest thing we have, but it also hasn’t been updated in 11 years which lends even further credence to the claim that Blizzard simply does not care about open world content. Open world content is a quota they’re obligated to fill and they’re going to do the bare minimum to reach that.
Well they have added a thing or two to the Darkmoon Faire, such as the one dancing mini-game to name one such example. However I can see much more potential with the whole thing if enough effort was put into evolving the event.
Just my two coppers on that front though.
Edit: To add onto that which I have said, the added touch of if ya wear the Scarlet Crusade Tabard when ya talk to the one Scarlet Crusade member there allows ya to purchase some transmog from her. Nothing big, but I love the added touch.
Pretty much. To be fair there have been a couple of updates. The rollercoaster for a rep buff (like the carousel), and the DDR game as well. I don’t think the DDR game awards anything at all though, not even tickets, which is bizarre. There are achievements I want to knock out though.
Otherwise I fully agree. Don’t forget that you still need player power to do various Darkmoon activities and gain their rewards, such as: Moonfang, Rabbit, the dead rock band, the arena, etc., so even then, I’m still very hesitant comparing Darkmoon Faire to Gold Saucer. They’re just so far apart.
Yeah. Saying it hasn’t been updated in 11 years isn’t totally true, but the updates are so marginal that they don’t really matter. It’s not like they’re completely reinventing Darkmoon Faire. They’re just simple flourishes that are more supplementary than anything else.
If anything, it kind of hammers home my point. Like, really? You think adding a dancing mini-game is somehow substantial?
It also doesn’t help that it’s only once a month for a week.
I was speaking in a more ‘techincal’ term since yeah, adding a thing or two over the course of years is not something big enough to note. Which is a dam shame in my opinion. When I think of all the mini-games that this game has offered, as well as some amazing ideas other games have done as well, I do feel like if the Darkmoon Faire was prioritized going forward, it can give something many could look forward to at the start of each month.
Matters not if no gear came from it, as I just like working towards the cosmetics like the purple blimp that took me a good long while to earn. Maybe old cosmetics, mounts, armor, or perhaps something new even.
Most people wouldn’t care about gear. Gear wouldn’t even be a discussion point if the content was just fun. I’ve said this countless times and nobody seems keens on listening to that. They just want to focus on the gear aspects of the discussion.
Everybody should want open world content to be better. It doesn’t negatively affect anybody by having an open world that isn’t relegated to boring world quests. It’s a net positive and it still blows my mind that we have people here saying otherwise.
Blizzard stole Dragonriding from Guild Wars 2. IDK why they don’t steal aspects of its open world too.
Open world is absolutely end game content in GW2 if you want it to be. Tons to do, world events, jumping puzzles, map exploration and the most insane world bosses of any MMORPG out there.
I think the playerbase of WoW would balk at something like Mouth of Mordremoth but I’d love it.
