I have a friend wanting to try WoW for the first time and she wants to play Horde and eventually try RP, so I told her I’d check and see how WrA has been doing since I left the server at the end of Legion. So I just had some questions:
Is open RP still findable in the Valley of Honor at/around the tavern there?
How is Silvermoon RP? Has it gotten more or less toxic since I left? One of the reasons I left was due to a falling out with the Blood Elf noble house RP guild I was in due to them openly being homophobic and racist in the guild chat.
Are there any open invite RP events I should know about that may serve as a good introduction to RP for my friend?
Is the community welcoming to members of the LBGTQ+ community?
Valley of Honor has walk up RP still happening daily.
There’s a current resurgence of SMC RP on a scheduled basis but it’s not advertised here on the forums. I can’t speak to what any of the specific noble house guilds are doing, but there are a few out there. I haven’t seen any bigoted commentary in RP, thankfully. There’s Fancy Cakes Bakery scheduled weekly, a Noble Court on December 1st.
There are a lot of those. Some of the taverns advertise here on the forums weekly, as does story circle. There are also pop up events. Calendars can be found on one of three active Discords.
The community is very welcoming to LGBTQIA+ players.
They have taken the bridge and the Second Hall. We have barred the gates but cannot hold them for long. The ground shakes…drums, drums in the deep. We cannot get out. The shadow moves in the dark. We cannot get out. They are coming.
Thanks for all the answers. Passed the info on to my friend, seems we’ll be calling WrA our home. Can’t wait to rp with everyone there again. Just gotta figure out what race/class combo to start with.
Vanndrel, you are magnificent. Thank you for that.
To the OP I would really recommend Story Circle and Soup Night to your friend. They are good places to people watch and make contacts while you are starting to get into RP. Even if she doesn’t RP, I think just being around some of the same people on a semi-regular basis will help her get comfortable. Plus they people that host those events are pretty good folks. I am slightly biased, but I really like both guilds.
Welcome to the WrA forums, Funebris! We’d be happy to have you on our realm. To answer your questions…

Yes and yes. That said, Horde RP also happens pretty much anywhere where someone makes the call and gathers folks. Cross-faction RP is also very popular on WrA as well.

It flared back up earlier this year then fizzled out again. I’m unsure what led both to the flare or fizzle. I participated it in a bit and had fun some nights.

There are so many. Check out the largest WrA RP event calendar on the Wyrmrest Community Project Discord: https://discord.gg/wrawcp. We’re 1550+ members strong and a great place to find a guild, open events, and network with fellow WrA roleplayers.
Is the community welcoming to members of the LBGTQ+ community?
Extremely, at least in the circles I run in (my guild, friend’s guilds, and the WCP).
If you have additional questions about Horde or Allianceside RP here, don’t hesitate to ask.
There is actually a push currently for more RP in both SMC and Gilneas. It just doesn’t all make it out to the forums. I was at an event in SMC a few days ago and it was packed.
The problem is that historically it has always tapered off back to nothing. I’ve seen it many, many times. Hopefully this time it will stick but I wouldn’t bet my Theater Troupe tickets on it.
Right now in the SMC Roleplay community I linked, there are more than 20 elven RPers - most collected up in 1-2 evenings of light advertisement. There’s a dedicated Discord as well with more than 40 members and it’s new as of this month; it’s advertising by word of mouth.
The group had a meet and greet on 11/9 and a Soiree on 11/26 that was so well attended that the Listener add-on was needed. There’s a ball being planned for 12/14. All of these are SMC events.
I expect another walk up event coming soon and I’ve got a small monthly RP planned for SMC that will be advertised in a few days - I’ve been holding off for about a week to see if someone else’s event would be scheduled, but it wasn’t.
One of the things we’ve really been trying to push on the forums over the past few months is to not drop negativity posts here. We have been actively and assertively planning and holding RP events for both factions and cross faction for the past few months. We’re seeing returning RPers, transfers back from MG on both factions and communities forming again.
The last couple times SMC had big pushes for Roleplay, the same groups and communities usually cannibalized itself in drama. I actively tried to help push the SMC revivals the last few times, and most of the people who ended up focusing the walk-up there were either afk, or just ignored you if you weren’t an Elf RPer.
So do I! But I spoke to the situation with knowledge of 2 SMC events that happened this month, a third in 2 weeks, a weekly event, and a growing community and discord. That’s not including my own SMC event and the event I was waiting on to be scheduled.
That’s 4-5 stand alone events plus a weekly. 8+ events in 4 weeks is pretty good, and those are just the ones I know about.
And SMC RP is still growing. But negativity tends to drive away RPers who might be interested in joining not only the events, but the server. Let’s not do that anymore.
