If I were to rewoke BM hunter I’d start by having their pet names display their pronouns so you can avoid misgendering them in the post match rage whisper.
It really doesnt need a rework just nerfs. Reworks are for specs fundamentally broken in the sense they dont work properly like others (like ret). But sometimes blizzard reworks specs because they can.
Pets do 75% less damage in PvP combat and PvP is instantly better (also affects demo, unholy dk, etc.).
I’m fine with compensating unholy dk elsewhere. It needs it. The other 2 specs imo don’t belong in pvp at all.

The only issus with BM is black arrow damage, and proc rate.
Pet damage isnt even an issue, its almost like no one has details installed.
If black arrow proc removed for BM, or proc rate nerfed substantially and black arrow damage nerf then BM doesnt do unhealable perma dam all game.

Put most of their damage into true abilities they use and less into their pets.
Have their pets be an addition, not the primary focus.
Same with Demo, get rid of this crap spec and give us back what we had in MoP/WoD
Typically 25% is black arrow so it is #1. At times when you line the pets can do more – but regardless a kill shot modified ability being #1 or even tied to pets is ridiculous.
idk the hunters I see just run behind pillars and let their pets cook. You don’t need to fight, your pets can literally win the game for you if u just hide behind pillars.
Take out that black arrow damage entirely and it’s still the best dps spec in the game
Ehh maybe in dps vs dps. If you are actually lining they cant press anything, wont be able to maintain their barbed shot stacks and pet dmg will drop 80%.
Imo small pet dmg nerf and proc rate/dmg nerf on black arrow leaves them decent not OP.
All you need is a good healer that can pump on damage and to put your pets on people and never get touched

All they need is a flat damage reduction. While having ONE less SOTF would be good, just dealing with their insane damage would mostly fix them. It’s not like they are a very dynamic spec.
Oh, and long term, they really need to gut the number of pets. It’s beyond absurd to have so many pets out. PvE or PvP. It’s just too much clutter.
Dire beast procs and damage. Dire beast procs hati or fenryr, and can also proc the dark hounds. Your kill commands can proc the dire beast/hati/fen and also a hound. If you group pet damage correctly on details, this is what combines to make pet melee damage ~30-40% of your overall profile. Cut this damage in half, take the small multiplier off kill command, then put a modest amount of damage into cobra shot.
This will drastically reduce the consistent, hard to stop damage coming from the hunter pets. The damage you’re left to contend with is cobra, black arrow, barbed shot, which are things that you can stop by disarming or CCing the hunter.
I would then unnerf rapidfire/aimed shot for marks via replacing bell tolls with overwatch in the DR tree, then executing withering fire and giving it a choice node so that it’s not ever worth taking for marks in pvp.
This way you’re left with a marks spec more or less where it was before the patch, and a BM spec that still works, but with lower overall damage. This way it isn’t so much better than the other hunter specs that you never see them, and its damage profile comes from healthier places. You want BM damage to be low enough such that it’s only really threatening if it’s perfectly landing traps and cross-ccing/stopping other stuff.
Most of BM’s pet damage already comes from Kill Command and Stomp (from pressing Barbed Shot). Those are both Hunter buttons that don’t activate without the Hunter using them
They tried to add more damage into Cobra Shot with the recent talent changes, and for the most part those talents aren’t meaningful and aren’t worth using. If they shifted more damage into CS people would just complain that BM spams 1 button to win, which also wouldn’t be productive.
Pets should be for utility and that’s basically it.
My pet melee is usually at minimum 2.5x my kill command damage and like 30% of my overall. Stomp varies on how many things you pad with it. Check the “group pet names under a pet spell bar” box in details’ options and it organizes them better. Dark hound + dire beast + 2 pets + fenryr + hati + cotw pets divides your pet damage 8 different ways and makes it look insignificant when you have “group pet spells under a pet name bar” checked instead. That’s also how details groups it by default.
Ofc this pet melee damage is also directly dependent on how many times you get to cast kill command, barbed shot, dire beast, etc., so it’s not like you’re doing old school levels of pet damage while literally not doing anything, but it’s definitely a lot. I think it’s the part that should be looked at tbh.
