How would you feel about Pure DPS classes becoming support classes?

Hey all, first time posting!

I was talking with a friend while doing keys about the state of M+. With the addition of Augvoker, I feel it’s really opened up the doors for real creativity from Blizzard which is great. But it’s not without it’s problems.

While Dev’s have always loved pushing “Bring the player, not the class”. It’s unfortunately not as envisioned for the hardcore players who want to push themselves for the more difficult content which means going the “meta” classes, especially when it comes to M+, which was made very apparent during Season 2’s MDI.

So here’s my question.
How would you feel if pure DPS classes(Hunter, Warlock, Mage, Rogue) had one of their specs become a support class like the Augmenter?

Okay, but why?
Simple, hopefully it opens up the class meta as these new support classes could mesh better with other classes better then the only support class we currently have(Aug)

This is how I would envision each classes “new” support spec fantasy. Granted I’ve really only had a day to really flesh out this thought.

  • Warlock - Demonology - The Warlock is free to unleash his demons on the group. Corrupting our damage so that when we attack our enemies, we spawn demons of our own that mimics our damage or healing or can be consumed as a shield or extra consumable or even enhance.

  • Hunter - Beast Mastery - The Hunter assigns one of their pets to each player type that tweaks their abilities. Example; Turtles/Mammoth pets to Tanks that reduce their damage reduction CDs, or add a 2nd charge to some abilities. Wolves/Raptors to DPS that adds a cleave attack to an ability or causes a self healing ability to also do damage. Bats/Birds of Prey to healers that soak in some of the damage taken and is released in different ways depending on the ability(single target heal doing splash healing around the target or AoE heals leaving a small HoT)

  • Mage - Frost - The Mage pulses an aura that chills our bones and enemies, increasing our critical damage amount to enemies and receive increased critical healing the closer we are to the Mage. With the added utility of slowing down our enemies for easy picking.

  • Rogue - Subtlety - The Rogues mastery of the shadows allows him to reduce the amount of damage the group takes. His Cheat Death becomes group wide in helping save his allies. Attacking his bleeding enemies grant us leech and his poisons coat our weapons allowing us to spread his toxins to other enemies that aren’t poisoned.

I’m no game designer in anyway but can definitely realize the amount of work and difficulty it would be to even begin to develop and implement these changes. But I thought it would just be a fun idea to think about to really spice up the new support class fantasy a bit.

Appreciate any feedback!

No matter what they do they’re going to piss people off. It’s better than trying to create and hamfist another plethora of classes to “balance”

And since they’ve never once deleted an entire class… It’s too late to just go back without changing support to pure dps

People will gravitate towards whatever the flavor of the month comp is.

Nah aug evoker will be converted to being just a regular DPS by the time 12.0 comes around.

Support roles like that dont really have a place in this game.
It wont work out.

Not true at all. Enhancement shamans should be the next support spec imo.

No changing specs to support. If they want to add a 4th spec as a support spec then that would be great. Gives people a choice. Take Demo Lock, a lot of people use that spec to level with so why ruin it. BM Hunter that’s requiring people to run pets they might not even like.

Aug works really well. The problem is they can’t decided where to assign the damage in details/logs. Personally I think details has it right. Aug buffs the other players so counting their extra dps as the Aug’s dps isn’t right. The aug wouldn’t be doing that much DPS without the other 4 people.

This 99% won’t happen, the have straight up said they won’t be changing existing specs. End of story.

They intentionally made it so that aug buffs could only be assigned to them in logs.

I would dislike it immensely.
I’m happy with how most of those specs are.

Oh, yes. Changing a spec from the very core is a very good idea. Always

Throws leftover scraps to neglected survival hunter

But like, the other 4 people wouldn’t be doing that much dps without the aug lol

Awful. I don’t really enjoy fire and I’m awful at arcane, so if frost was the ‘lucky chosen’, then I need to play support or quit. I’d quit. And I’m certain there are plenty of other mages who greatly prefer fire or arcane who would be in the same boat as me.

Nope, 4th specs or bust.

Pure dos classes need a tank or healer spec.

Rogues need a range dps spec so since outlaw is lame it should be turned to tank. Meta rogue specs are what people play anyway.

Im all for changing one or even two of my rogue specs into tank/healer/support.
.
It doesnt even matter which specs as all three rogue specs play the same as it is. Id like some variation and being pure melee dps is extremely limiting in all aspects of this game. But I have way too much done on it to play another class at this point.

Kinda like the power rangers!?!?

Idk man, druid used to have symbiosis and it sorta worked this way…was broken as hell too :joy:

If they touch my Demo I’ll Implode all of Blizzard! I AM A DPS!

To be honest, I rarely even touch the group buffs we already have unless someone requests them specifically. I picked up specs like MM hunter and fire mage to shoot and/or blow up my enemies, not to help people.

They already said that if this support role works out and they want to make more they would be entirely new specs. But regardless of that, there’s no reason they couldn’t leverage the new talent trees to allow you to talent into a support build or a dps build.

I think we’ll see more eventually, but I don’t think they will or should replace existing specs to do it.
