I see all these diatribe posts from “solo players” saying there is nothing in this game for them to do…
Well, how would you (if you are one of these self described “solo players”) design the game? What activities and things would you design if you truly wanted a solo experience in an MMO?
Keep in mind, development resources are finite. You can’t say put in all this crap that you want, and still have resources to continue to make raids, dungeons, pvp content and other activities that are group based. You’d have to cut some items that would have been developed to make your solo content.
So what is it? What is YOUR “solution” or your desired things you want designed and put in the game for you?
Torghast is already there. It wouldn’t take much in terms of resources to add higher layers with Level 70 enemies, and add gear drops or a new currency for purchasing gear.
You could even just pop DF level 70 mobs in there.
A couple of things I like see, not sure if they really constitute “solo play” but they are things I do alone
Another mage tower style challenge, maybe an armour set this time
Improvements to older raids being accessible. Mind controls, dispels, bosses needing to be split, just removed once we’ve hit a point where the old content is truly old content.
I like Torghast, so maybe something like that, with the gear from the visions in BFA, maybe get a nice piece each week.
Honestly though I really just like having content in place where I can work towards getting some aesthetic. I know its probably a little shallow, and it is very heretical, but I liked working towards armour sets in Shadowlands, even with just the anima/soul upgrades, so maybe something that has multiple armour sets tied to the world, tokens, bits and pieces, a currency.
Something I enjoyed in SWTOR was the ability to do (most) dungeons solo with a NPC bot for a tank. The rewards are scaled down from the group difficulties but you can go through them at your own pace and choose how you want to approach things (eg. do optional parts or not).
We already know Blizz has the capability to scale content as necessary (flex raids, Torghast, disabing un-soloable mechanics in legacy raids) so I don’t think it’d be a crippling resource investment.
I love Diablo, but I don’t want wow to ever be diablo.
Regardless, the players who are complaining about not having enough solo content just low key want the gear to be better. We’ve seen it time and time again with these threads, and people saying how they want a “progression system” even though we currently have it in the game. People just want higher ilvl gear.
Not to mention S3 Shadowlands with Zereth Mortis, which was actually really good solo content, with gear that gave you bonuses in the outside world. It was cool, but people still complained no matter what.
Oh that reminds me! I really like having little set bonuses on gear too. I like the primal set/Drakebreaker gear. I understand we’ve got tier, but I think its nice having some kind of set bonus for more things tbh. Doesn’t have to be crazy good, but a little effect while you’re out and about is nice.
Also the other effects, I also just remembered too, thought that was also neat.
Ya, it’s called progression, solo players still want progression of gear. In DF I’m fine with the 380ish item level some of my toons are at. The issue is what challenge is there once I get there? There are some good ideas in this thread for that, read them.
I think we should discuss what it means to be a “solo player” first.
To me it means that I don’t need a guild or a reliable group of friends to do Raids or Dungeons or rated PvP.
I can use group finder for things I can’t do by myself, and there is progression for me from world content without having to do more challenging group content.
By that definition, I think Dragonflight is the best it’s ever been for solo players.
But it seems that some people view “solo play” as wanting to do everything in the entire game all by themselves while never having to interact with another player.
I don’t understand that view. Why even play an MMO? I love playing with random people.
Yes, the original assumption was that you could start the Shadowlands intro quests at level 48 and be level 50 by the time you started Chromie Time, but devs never went back to change the level requirement for the Renown boost item.
I think you might mean how the Necrotic Wake boss teleports you away then despawns because the platform is empty. This might get easier to solo in future patches once we gear up enough to kill him faster.
BfA might be thematically closer to Dragon Isles because it’s a bunch of random adventuring in a new land. I also wonder whether SL has enough questing content to get you from 10 to 60.
They wanted to forget SL within months of it being released. Content patches were cut and the story was rewritten to end it as quickly as possible.
My guess is that box sales were high, but many players just quit after reaching max level because the three pillars didn’t appeal to them and Torghast didn’t offer progression.
The SL Season 1 raid and M+ pool were well received, and PvP players were finally able to get gear vendors back. So the issue had to lie with the casual or solo playerbase having no worthwhile endgame, especially after Legion and BfA offered such great world content.
My favourite solo quests are the ones where you are solving mysteries, finding clues and lost items, or even missing persons. Vanilla had some good ones. Pamela Redpath, Morgan Ladimore, Shady Rest Inn, etc.
It’s that city dungeon where you chase that crazy lady through portals. When she goes phase 2 she takes 99% less damage unless you do her mechanics. Only her mechanics don’t start if you’re solo so she just stays in phase 2 with 99% damage reduction.
Not mythic raid gear guys, come on, it should be atleast 15-20 ilvl higher than anything that someone can earn from mythic. I mean what is mythic raiding? You fight some bosses; we’re out here fighting the whole world!
