How would a "solo player" design content for WoW?

Solo dungeons are fun. Like Withered army training. Torgast was basically like solo dungeon raids with fun buffs. The 18 floors was awesome. It would have been nice to get some vault gear from doing torgast in shadowlands.

Could do some pve tournaments. Like Kingdom Hearts. Some solo gauntlets of mobs/bosses from the past. The Brokers could sort of do this I would like to see.

They could do mega dungeons with a ton of randomized floors. Star Ocean TIll the End of Time and some final fantasy games to mind. One had 100 floors for one of the last mega dungeons in ff10-2 for example. Each 20 floors had a major boss fight. While you can save in between each 20 floors and resume progress.

The other had 200 floors I believe and every 20-40 floors.

Torghast felt good with 2-3 floor breaks. The lack of save/pause function though felt bad.

All the solo content I have done in wow that I have enjoyed could be described as solo dungeons. Brawler’s guild, withered army training, Torgast, horrific visions. Just solo dungeons that drop loot and get harder with better loot would be awesome.

I also wouldn’t mind a follower system like we’ve had before with the mission tables, but instead of them being used for missions (they could bring that back I do miss the passive income just don’t put some mandatory story tied to it). Legion was nice in that we could use some followers as bodyguards in the open world. Zereth Mortis was nice to have but it sucked not having Pocopoc in the old zones for example. I would like a system where we do solo dungeons and have a tree like for bonus rewards, torgast powers, and able to find bodyguards that can aid us in world content personally.

I imagine in Dragonflight we could find arcane like “summons” of old heroes like Sindrogosa, or maybe mess around with the infinte dragons to create paradox moments in history for some nice solo dungeons (scenarios) for example. Could give some nice decent transmog to collect and add some cool old bosses/npcs/ enemy units. They could do a visions 2.0 if they go to the black empire for example.

Could do like a crystal tower sort of thing as well.

Destiny has heroic public events. Basically they have a way of making the event harder and drop better gear. That would be cool to see in WoW for some better loots with some coordination to make the event happen. It was fun doing them if you had the gear.

No man’s sky has a bunch of good systems for some chill gameplay. Where you can grind out getting materials, selling them for some nice cosmetics to npcs and making stuff like space ships. Wow could do something similar if they have like the garrison evergreen. Could just set garrisons up randomly in new content for example that had some nice customizable features for your outpost coming from that expansion. In DF I could see us having like a small island or a cave somewhere and just getting stuff from around the isles and having some npcs visit and offer quests/ quests to fetch material for some gold, and have a place for your bodyguards to hang out and have stuff like a personal portal room to hop around the expansion zones for example. I could see in Dragonflight each faction having a bodyguard we could have recruited and leveled up as we do our things it would have been nice to have a centaur helping me kill stuff. Although I do appreciate the bakaar whistle. Or getting a nice tuskar ally.

Having some daily quests that make profession worth gold making off of npcs help set auction house prices too and raise them by adding some demand to them. They could add daily quests like that to have better effects on the market for stuff like ore right now.

The same challenge that mythic raiders get when they finish the gear thread mill. If you chose to not continue because group content does not interest you then that means you’ve reached the end just like everyone else can reach the end.

I consider myself a “solo player” simply because I’m a off-hours player that rarely gets to participate in “prime time” play.

So I’ll give you a example of something that vexes me at the moment.

PvP gear.

Now, allow me to explain…

Yes, I can get all the honor gear and upgrade it all to level 5 with honor simply by queueing up for random BG’s, Epic BG’s and Brawls. Probably could get honor too by going warmode and doing those quests, killing people in the world. I don’t do that, but I guess that could happen…

Ahem. Now, with BG wins and even arena wins, we are awarded some Conquest. And over time, I can acquire some conquest gear. Neat! But… I can’t upgrade the conquest gear until I get a certain rating in “group” play.

/sigh

So here is where I’d draw the line in that. Now obviously, it’ll take me a long long time to acquire enough conquest to get fully geared in conquest gear AND get it all upgraded to 9/9… without the ratings component.

Isn’t that something Blizzard would want? Having me on that treadmill day in and day out working for the few conquest points per win until eventually I get that conquest gear fully upgraded? Yes!

To be fair, I’d draw the line at the Elite gear/appearances in current content. I’d be ok with that being strictly group content… until this is old content. IE Next expansion.

I just don’t understand why dangle the conquest gear in front of me and then mandate ratings to upgrade it.

I have tried using group finder for rated BG’s. It is extremely discouraging as every group falls apart after 1 loss, and since it’s essentially a PUG, the 1st match is the 1st loss.

A few other things…

Do away with the crafting orders quest. OR… add in a few crafting world quests that award rep for when there are no crafting orders available. So keep crafting orders AND add in a few WQ’s.

Also…

For the love of whatever, do away with the 2 week time gate between opening up LFR wings. I might even compromise and accept 1 wing per week… maybe.

Now that I think about it, stuff in raids… And I don’t mean things like armor/weapons, I mean things like crafting recipes, toys, mounts, etc. Give us a alternate way to earn them!

Put them as random rewards in loot boxes you buy with honor! Say, 10,000 honor per box?

Have a chance to get them from killing 250 enemies from the Darkmoon Faire quest? It’ll give people reason to participate in the DMF.

Random chance to drop from the weekly world boss?

Basically, just give people some alternative ways, that can be accomplished without dedicated groups, to get some of the stuff that’s locked behind group content.

Not everything, mind you. Group content should have it’s own rewards. Just hey, throw us “solo players” a bone.

I would expand upon the follower system to create a party of NPCs large enough to take on current raids so that raids could be soloed with a similar experience to the one people have today, but with all NPCs aside from the player. I would focus heavily on the fishing system, providing players with an artifact on the same level as the underlight angler and with fun new fishing themed abilities that show off their dedication to the craft, and extremely rare vendor fish that sell for big gold.

I’d bring back and expand the archaeology system, retroactively applying it to Shadowlands and to the Dragon Isles.

I’d double the number of quests, half of them being designed for post-cap play and finishing the advanced storylines would award a full set of max-level epic armor with bonuses related to questing/surviving/traversing the overworld.

I would also bring back MoP style daily quests and remove the daily quest limit as well as increasing the amount of quests you can hold in your quest log.

The NPC followers alone would open up an unfathomable amount of content for solo players, as this would allow everyone to solo legacy raids that still aren’t easy enough in WoW’s current state.

I would also introduce a ton of busywork achievements like “/tickle every gnome” or “/hug every dragon” or things of that nature like Northrend had when achievements first rolled out. Things to do while exploring the new zones and tangible rewards for completing them. Tabards, cosmetics, mounts, titles, pets, etc.

Even if you play it solo it is still an mmo and some peple don’t like playing Russian roulette when grouping.

Thank you for proving my point.

Enjoy your badge grind instead of doing actual content.

Your actual content is still a grind.

M+ isn’t a grind, it’s content that rewards good gear.

Unlike face rolling heroics for sub par gear.

That’s a lie.

Maybe to you, as you don’t actually do anything outside wqs.

Thats cause it’s a grind.

A bad one at that. So bad that I find Classic better.

So you want to grind brain dead heroics instead of push actual content?

Weird take on grinding but then again your takes are always trash.

I don’t find pushing difficulty fun.

If I did I’d enjoy high level raiding.

I play games to relax and have fun not join an E-sports league.

I play games to relax aswell.

I wouldn’t call grinding brain dead content relaxing.

It’s also telling of your skillset that you even consider low m+ to be “esports”. Sub healer dps players think like that.

I can when you make opinions on content you don’t have the skills to complete and thus don’t do.
