How will classic affect retail server population?

Rogues were unique before they had shroud.

Not that I want to defend Asmongold on this one, but what?

Those were 6+ level difference mobs in many cases. Most raids only contend with +3. At level 30 you also don’t have any +hit gear or talents to speak of that will help with a +6 level difference.

This also ignores the matter of melee/tank theorycraft having been proven wrong in regards to parry, and not by a little. Which is a huge thing in regards to tanks trying to gain and hold threat.

See, this is a perfect illustration of lack of Classic threat management knowledge. In Classic, threat management wasn’t just a tank responsibility.

Agreed, but somebody needs to have aggro and if the tank doesn’t have it, that means it probably is going to be the healer, unless a DPS manages to kite it. Oh wait.

Can’t generate much threat when you can’t hit something. Did you watch Asmongold’s PoV? Lack of threat management skills? Lol, threat management was never much of a skill because KTM was a thing. They could have sat for 5 minutes as Asmongold generated threat but they were racing against another group.

Thus the use of hunters to make up for lack of threat management skill, just as I said.

You can pretend you know why they were doing things but you’re wrong. They had Hunters because Hunters deal the most damage to mobs significantly higher level than you.

That must be why raids stacked hunters in Vanilla. Except they didn’t.

???

Three levels isn’t significant, twelve is.

Hunters were incredible before 1.11 because we coulud wipe out aggro every 30 sec.

No other class enjoyed such frequency.

After 1.11 it was still useful on trash and adds, but not as useful vs bosses because warrior tanks were now pulling such high threat values that warrior DPS were able to actually push high DPS values without pulling aggro almost instantly.

Okay, you’re failing in so many ways here.

1st off, most pulls involved at least 2 mobs. Due to the level differences, Asmon would be doing good to keep threat on one mob, let alone two or three because of game mechanics.

Due to the level difference, the probability of a frost trap being resisted is high. So you drop two traps so that in the event one is resisted, you still have a chance for the second one to slow the mobs. Which then enables the hunters a chance to gain aggro and begin kiting on the “extra” mob which Asmon isn’t going to be able to hold aggro on due to game mechanics(high parry/high resist rates).

Also, by allowing Asmon to focus on a single mob while the others are kited, Asmon, and the rest of the party need less healing. Thus taking pressure off the healer and greatly reducing the risk of the healer gaining aggro through healing.

But sure, if you think they should have been able to faceroll it at level 30 instead, I guess more power to you.

This guy is right. I can tell you from firsthand experience doing SM when we were level capped at 30 that I did far, far more damage than anyone else in the group. Because hunter attacks don’t glancing blow. ~3 levels no big deal, but the farther beyond 3 levels it gets the more damage a hunter will do in comparison. Melee get glancing that does like 99% less damage and casters just straight up get resisted. Combine that with the ability to feign off threat as long as the mob isn’t in your face and you’ve got the best dps for a specific set of circumstances.

There wasn’t any magical reversal of armor and level effects between 3 and 12 levels higher.

Now, if it was a race, the choice makes more sense, since hunters could ignore threat limits with greater safety due to kiting ability, feign death, and traps, and that instance was better than most for kiting.

Outside of silly streamer games, though, racing was largely irrelevant to Vanilla, so the fact that you take particular classes for dungeon races doesn’t demonstrate spec imbalance in Vanilla.

Says the level 50 Rogue who is not undead, but actually a troll.

Can attest to the high resist rate even with full 5/5 Shadow Focus as a Shadow Priest, once I hit +6 levels above me the resist rate becomes crazy high. At +7 you might as well not even bother, you’ll probably burn through 3/4ths of your mana bar trying to land a single attack… Hunters are insane for going after much higher level mobs.

If it’s a hunter? “Its +8 levels? No Problem!”

Not true, at least not if Classic matches Vanilla. Level differences magnify armor effects, reducing damage from hunter physical attacks. The low damage rate in the Asmongold video appears to demonstrate this.

No, it doesn’t. Hit rate is impacted by levels, not damage. Glancing blows only impacts melee, range doesn’t suffer from it. A rogue buddy and I killed the giant in STV together around 34. He’s a 42 elite. My max hits were not reduced. Just my hit rate. Gorlash for The Captains Chest.

So long as they have a group supporting them, it isn’t much of a problem. Pair that up with level +2 pets and they’re even crazier.

Hunters are enjoying some bugs in Classic as it stands, but I suspect their ability to hit mobs at +8 and +9/+10 levels is authentic. The damage may be greatly mitigated, but it’s still damage. Which is more than could be said for any other class attempting to do the same thing.

Did you ever raid as a hunter in Vanilla? Yes, we could ignore threat after the first feign and just go for maximum DPS, but that still put us behind most other classes, which is why Tranq Shot was needed for raids to bring any hunters.

Partly right, partly wrong. Higher level mobs have higher armor values, which in turn translates into higher phsycial damage mitigation. You just don’t see that specific form of mitigation reported in your combat logs. If you examined the combat log more closely I think you’d find even the top end of your damage was reduced by a couple points at the least.
