Title. The changes to WW passive seem good, but the nerf to overall damage and Shadowboxing seem…iffy.
I’m not a monk expert, but I’ve been having fun with the class. All the videos I’ve seen from people more knowledgeable than me say Monk is looking good in 11.1.
Mistweaver looks good.
Windwalker is okay. Same as it was before but now with degen CJL + slicing winds builds
Brewmaster however looks really sad. Besides BDK they received very little changes – and they even got the lowest damage buff of any tank with the aura buffs.
It’s looking like
MW will be A tier, just not in pvp anymore, more a High C or low B tier in pvp
WW will be C tier in pve and F tier in pvp
Brew is on the bench F tier across the board
Love the idea of monk, both no battle rez,or lust, group utility is medium, there’s really no point in taking one in Mythic plus.
On the PTR from my knowledge most monk mains are loving it and saying it’s a lot of fun. On the tier lists, WW is predicted to be A tier in some dungeons and A+ tier for the others. Really strong in ST. But there’s really no telling until the season is out, but hopefully good.
I don’t heal much but it’s predicated to be a top healer along side of priest.
Tank, I think BRM mains will most likely stick with it, but I know it needs changes for more ppl to switch to play tank spec.
Good luck out there
WW feels real iffy. The tier is bland RNG. SBT nerf is eh considering CI got buffed by a 3 digit number. Buffs to LEC are nice and Slicing Winds is dumb, but it’s gonna be weird fitting some of it into rotation. WW did not need a new button especially since Blizz is really pushing the envelope for Conduit. It feels like a lot of clunk and extra effort for mid returns. I’m concerned how we’ll scale as the tier goes on. Hopefully our new mast scaling will keep us relevant.
Personally, I’d rather blizz have optimized and improved the monk class and spec trees across the board. Much could be done to boost the power of monk as a class while also freeing up talent points on the spec trees. This would put more power in the core things of monk so that we aren’t reliant on flashy new things, but if the flashy new things happen to be good monk becomes that much better.
Monk reeks of being designed spec by spec as opposed to as a class.
Also big o7 for MotC. RIP any dream WW had of consistently giga scaling in AoE. All aboard the DoCJ slot machine.
Best class
By a country mile by far. It’s just rather unfortunate that the finer details are either never hammered down or are greatly nerfed.
Haven’t messed on PTR, did they end up forcing CJL into the WW rotation?
Is there a guide on how mw healing changed in 11.1? Like I keep hearing how smooth it is now but just looking at talents I can’t tell
They just buffed a few keys spells, but it’s buffs where MW was weak so it really smooths out the experience, it really doesn’t change your rotations/abilities.
You missed one: with the removal of generous pour we are now the only healer without an external damage reduction. The cocoon does not scale with keys very well either. Everything breaks it. The SV curses in a sufficiently high key break it before they’re even like 3/4 of the way done ticking. Those curses stack too. We also can’t dispel them. Blightbone frontal can one shot a lot of dps with the cocoon at 100% hp, seen it happen.
They did a good job to consolidate the talent trees but didn’t really address most of the problems we had in the group utility department. Mystic touch is nice but it’s no mark of the wild or stamina+PI buff. Most classes do primarily magic damage anyway. Heck our main damage dealer JE=>CJL does magic damage (???)
Ideally have to build your comp around making up for all the things mw can’t do. Bres? Gotta have that jumper cables require melee range and only raise a target with 10% mana (you’re alive! you’re also oom!) Imagine most of siege bosses trying to bres the tank with jumper cables…omg imagine theater of pain. Gotta get lust monk can’t do that and drums are half the effectiveness. Curses? Bleeds? Group damage reduction (zephyr? mass barrier? amz?) your ideal comp can just get whittled down a lot. You can do it without those things, oh I’m sure you can, but it’s just making it harder for yourself.
Blizzard has been aware of this though? And rather than remedy being the only healer without a lot of things everyone else has, blizzard doubled down on healing and damage through JE, and then rolled out nerf after nerf for mw on ptr. I feel like the only time i hear anything about it something got nerfed. Nerfing mana tea was a low blow
I have seen many monks on the PTR, all specs, sometimes all 3 specs in the same party at the same time. None of the specs made me want to copy a monk over to try.
Most classes dont have everything either. Shamans, the meta healer for most of the season dont offer vers buff they offer a skimpy mastery buff. Shamans dont have a bres either so guess you are building around that too, whoops. Priest have no interupt, and resto druids dont have lust either.
Personally i was stoked that the devs put so much into MW over the past few years, memba when ancient teachings had the smol range? Pepperidge farms membas
it’ll feel weird to change set bonuses. that one button will feel bad to press in m+ i guess.
Right now? Kind of nervous.
WW:
Not liking the idea (on paper) at least of two new buttons in the rotation, one of which is a channel that requires you to be still. Although apparently there are fights this tier where CJL (which is, of course, Chain Jade Lightning) and LEC will shine. This is the first tier I really played WW and having finally gotten the Shado-Pan rotation down I am not feeling very good about having to switch and learn a new playstyle. Even if WW performs well it still might not be fun to play.
Brew:
This is the Monk spec I’ve played the most and I am very unmotivated to play it. I think Dorki got it right when he said Brew feels like BDK, but your healer is the one pressing Death Strike. I’ve never played such a bad feeling tank. And the tier set giving random mitigation procs doesn’t really help things with Brew or any other tank. Random mitigation procs are probably the least beneficial buff you can give to a tank.
With MoH keg smash will hit for a pitiful 200-300k in 678 gear, as opposed to sometimes hitting for over 1m at 639.
I don’t want to swap over.
Good stuff. Not a fan of the rope necklace they added to the chest piece though.
Adding on to this, but also the Brewmaster keg smash reset allowed us to reach 11 or 12 CPM of Keg Smash. Losing this, we’re back down to whatever hasted CD we have for Keg Smash – at 6% haste it means I’m going to get about 7.8 cpm theoretical max on keg smash.
This represents a huge loss for our overall AOE profile – given that Breath of Fire does no damage and Spinning Crane Kick also does no damage. It’s already noticeable when Brewmaster – specifically Shado-pan – seems to reach a cap in potential AOE damage even in very large pulls – basically hoping for a Shado-pan flurry strike WITH a min-maxed Flurry Strike in order to hold threat against some of the burstier classes.
I dunno guys. It doesn’t feel good at all.
