All of our classes have seen a lot of changes over the years. Some more than others. But one thing we’re almost universally hit by is new visual designs, spell detail, casting animations, etc.
Do you like the way your class looks? Do you have a preferred previous iteration?
This is relevant to pvp because aesthetic is everything.
What about your race’s animation skeleton?
What was visually the best WoW for you? What, specifically, or generally, would you like to see changed?
I’ll start.
Incinerate is the least visually satisfying spell in the game. It literally looked better when it was like 360p white pixels with an orange outline.
my favorite animation was always the OG templars verdict animation where you did the twirl and then slam, no idea why they changed it to what it is now which looks way less cool
i also miss chi wave and tiger’s lust using the offensive cast animation like when you cast a dot instead of the general spell animation like when you cast a heal or a buff, which is a small thing but its always kinda bothered me
i also miss the monk deflect animation or whatever it was when you parried and using jab instead of tiger palm
Yeah. I remember having a rain of fire morph in my immolate just to get immolate to be an omni-cast again because spamming the same animation over and over was like drilling a hole into my skull.
I had warlock & mage fully morphed in wod, just for hand postures and spell details, then in legion I extended it to rogue. Now without tmorph i’ve dropped lock and mage completely. I’m probably a little extreme in this regard but I can’t help it.
Still would like old models to come back too. It upsets me how much I don’t enjoy classic but love it visually lol.
I used to play undead male dk but it became unplayable after the model rework, human female also had cool melee animations and night elf female had cool caster animations. Latter 2 still look cool but not as smooth anymore.
Some new DK animations also look really weird on most races, especially clawing shadows
i really hate the book animation thing for holy light that they added. judgment used to be so much cooler with the glyphs that could change its hammer shape to a diff weapon in your bags.
I miss the old casting animation, imo it looked best on human female locks with malefic grasp + drain soul. Now, it looks like they are angrily pulling stuff from the ground or lazily lobbing out spells.
Sparring parry was it? I miss jab, too. Upside down staves, Zen Sphere, old healing sphere mastery orbs galore, and Breath of the Serpent – as useless as it was, no doubt it was beautiful.
I loved shadow reflection, I know it was just a lame cloak of shadowed/spriest voidform copy of my toon, which they could have made much better like their current soul animations when you die in SL, but I liked it, felt like I was using some sort of secret rogue technique to create a copy that imitated me.
One thing I miss is wotlk original chaosbolt/incarnate destro visuals. I think it looked way cleaner and more satisfying than todays bolt/incarnate
The new visuals for lightning bolt actually made me reroll in MoP from my shaman.
Otherwise for Monk’s there werent really any changes, the visuals are still pretty much the same. I think the old legsweep looked better but that’s about it
To be the devil’s advocate here, I do miss the sound files attached to drawing/firing your bow that early wow hunters had. But that’s not a visual aesthetic.
It was a really unique idea, but was also unfortunately also involved in arguably the most toxic rogue playstyle to have ever existed.
I really liked the potential creative uses of the ability as it replicated cc, but in reality it was just big dam one shot button tunnel vision embodied.
