I have read some guides that say you can tank with a hunter if you go Survival talents and get a bat or a bird for screech to lower enemies attack power and cower to unload aggro into yourself.
I don’t expect this to tank any Raid but how about 5 mans?

If warlock can tank 5ppls (check staysafe guilde) then maybe hunter can aswell

Distracting Shot. A hunter taunt. Lot of people would be confused why dps classes have these threat generating abilities or taunts but the truth is Blizz originally made this game to be done with teamwork in mind not pigeonholing people into roles. That was a community decision that led to Blizz designing endgame instances for roles and that’s why there’s a big conflict in what class is what in classic WoW. In TBC they cemented the idea of forcing people into roles.

If you’re in a guild that likes to have fun playing with this kind of thing, then go for it. Give it a shot. See what you can make of it.
The community is so entirely bewitched by min/max, however, that I wouldn’t anticipate getting ANY mileage from this plan outside of a group of friends/guildies. I mean, people won’t let druids cat dps. If you think they’re gonna mess about with a hunter tanking, you’re dreaming.
P.S. Which is ridiculous, really, because we cleared the first half of MC tonight like a hot knife through soft butter–in a half and half pug. So…I mean. Screw it. Give it a whirl. Sounds like a fun experiment to me.
Well it sounds really interesting tbh and with the lack of tanks… and I also have read on this forums a guy talking about it and he did day he was tanking as a hunter.
I have tanked all 5 mans as BM hunter quite well!
My mage steals aggro from hunter sometimes, my rogue steals aggro from the tank sometimes. The point of having a tank is aggro keeping so that the heal will ONLY need heal the tank most of the time.
Yes, can a pet take the hits and can the healer keep it alive? Perhaps. But can it generate enough aggro and if not how much will the dps have to nerf their dps so they don’t steal it from the pet? Probably a lot. Just with my hunter dps I alone often steal aggro from my pet.
back on lightshope we had a hunter tank. takes a ton of gear, certain spec, and a ton of consumes, but yea you can do it. it is expensive though
the pet can only hold aggro really on 1 mob at a time and even then the hunter itself grabs aggro. How would you complete Ulda or above with an at level BM hunter. would be interested in a video.
Much like Enhance Shaman, I imagine the most significant issue they would face would be AoE threat.
Why not just use hunter’s pet? A bear?
How would you deal with multi threat?
Does hunter has redirects shot in classic? Aoe and redirecting to the bear? I never played a hunter and never see a hunter tank so I don’t know but the bear can tank dungeon boss

My Wolf just tanked LBRS with a Locks Voidwalker as OT… There was a lot of trapping on the pulls as well to make it easier…
