When Blizzard started removing restrictions on the combination of all races and classes, one of the most anticipated moments by the player base is when every race can choose to be a druid. Druid is one of the most popular classes in the game, next to hunter and paladin. Despite being the most unavailable class outside of DH and Evoker, only 7 races can pick it, it’s still in the top 3. Which is truly a great achievement. I would like to add that even the most popular races such as Humans, Orcs and Blood elf dont have access to it still belong to the top.
The community really loves this class and its fantasies. Winning the players vote for a new mount by: Wandering Ancient, huge popularity of the Night Fae Covenant in Shadowlands, or the very well received emerald dream patch, especially the new moonkin customizations and druid sets. The uniqueness of having 4 specializations allows everyone to find something for themselves. And of course the shapeshifting skill is the main selling point of this class.
So I wonder how much the druid’s popularity increases when become open to everyone. Every third player will choose this class, or maybe I’m judging the druid hype too much? What are your predictions?

It doesn’t.
The reason why removing restrictions for Druids won’t happen any time soon is because it’s a lot of work.
You gotta make a racial bear form and a racial cat form and a racial travel form and a racial flight form and a racial moonkin form.
That’s a lot of work.
Compare that to Warlocks where you only need to flip a switch and now everybody is Warlocks.
Class Balance and popularity has nothing to do with it. It’s just a matter of work and, more importantly, the price of work.

I don’t see that being an issue
Everyone is capable of making Druids now already.
Why should it matter. Instead of playing my NE Druid today I’d play my human one.
When every body is a Druid, nobody is.
Wait… that’s not true…

I’m pretty sure someone here has said they won’t play druid because they don’t like any of the races, so surely some more will try it out. But, I think mostly that’ll be spreading the druid population around between more races (which sounds great). I’d be surprised if there’s a large portion of the population that loves the gameplay enough to choose druid for their main, but doesn’t because they don’t like the race choices. I do expect a lot of druid toons to be made, though, I hope to make some (probably little played) alts, myself.

That Druid won’t be getting expanded to more races during the War Within, if at all.

All classes for all races is such a cheap lore and world building destroying cop out.

I think a few will but not all at once. It is a lot of work

While that’s undoubtedly true, this sort of event is most likely statistically insignificant.
Especially since while Druids are a very race-restricted Class, the few Races they can be are diverse enough that people have a good pool of options.
If you want to play a Human or Human-like Druid, you have Night Elves, Kul Tirans and Worgen (just consider the Worgen form as another Shapeshifting form and you’re golden!)
If you want to play a monster race, you have Trolls and Zandalari.
And if you want to play one of the beast races, you got Tauren, Highmountain and Worgen to choose from.
Not only that, but race is kinda less important for Druids than it is for other Classes, because you spend most of your time in Shapeshifting Forms for most specs.
So it’s rather unlikely that someone is like “man, I really want to play Druid but only if I could be an Orc Druid”. That person would just make a Troll Druid, because Trolls are essentially just really long blue Orcs lol
Because WoW’s playerbase is huge, it’s a pretty safe bet that someone like that exists. The bigger the sample, the more likely we are to find unlikelihoods happening. But increasing the Druid Race pool is unlikely to increase the active Druid population by a statistically considerable amount.

Hate to break it to you, but Ion has come out to say there are no current plans for it to happen in TWW.
Beyond that, the last few classes we haven’t really gone broad with, there are some thematic and narrative challenges with. There are some races, for example, it’s very hard to imagine being druids. I don’t know what a goblin druid or mechagnome druid would look like in Azeroth culturally, in terms of their traditional background and what the Druids of the Grove and Cenarion circle typically value and welcome in. I would never say never, but I don’t think we have any immediate plans for further expansion like we’ve seen over the course of Dragonflight, beyond drachtyr.

Sadly, that’s probably true (unless harro…haranir become playable).
Yeah I’d say good chance at it being introduced with a future allied race, but not the currently playable races.
I’m sure they will add druid as the last class for everyone. I don’t mean release time. But people’s reactions when this finally happens
Pandas should have Druids

thats why they should do it in batches. stuff like mecha gnomes and goblins would be last as they are the most work to explain. the remaining 3 classes shouldnt be rolled out all at once because it would take forever for it to happen but if they do like 1 alliance and 1 horde at a time or a bit more it would be alot easier and would be a easy win with the player base. im more interested in if anyone has made a single bit of effort on these 3 for any of the races they arent yet and wether or not it will happen before 2030

that’s not entirely true, though.
you have to take into account the racials and how they interact with each druid spec.
for example, would it be too overpowered to allow a guardian druid to be a dwarf and have access to stoneform as a tank cooldown?
If people wanted to play the class that desperately they would just play the class under the current limitations. I wouldn’t believe the claim of anyone saying they desperately want to play a druid but refuse to do so because of the race options. Would not believe them at all.
So, no, I don’t expect an explosion of druids if they open it to everyone.

Never, because Ion has stated himself that getting behind the idea of Mechagnome Druids is exceptionally hard and makes absolutely no sense.
Dead horse is dead. Move on.

It doesn’t. Druids are not meant for everyone. I dare say most don’t like the idea of shapeshifting often.
I’m a Druid player for a long time. I will make every Druid race especially dwarf, gnome, and blood elf.
