So i got kicked from a discord server it was my fault but anyways I made a new account the next day and joined that server again on that account. I said “hello” and within moments i was kicked again how did they know it was the same person and not kicking an actual new person to the server?
IP address bans
If you got kicked and were trying to get sneak back on, you’re clearly up to no good.
ok but they dont have any bots set up in discord so do they actually see your IP address? isnt that illegal or something cus it can provide personal information
Rather than delve into how they knew it was the same person, I’m gonna just stop at finger wagging for getting kicked but trying to get back in anyway. Shame on you!

In voice chat or regular chat?
If it’s regular chat, their’s a lot of factors go into it, such as a blank/similar avatar pic, similar or exact demeanor, and/or if you were just being a massive butt about it.
it was regular chat but someone mentioned up top that its a IP ban but if it was how could i make another account then and join in? also i didnt use a blank or similar avatar and saying hello isnt some weird demeanor. has to be some other way they knew it was an alt account from same person thats what im trying to figure out
Viewing someones IP is not illegal, and the method of obtaining one is almost never illegal. If you’re concerned about this there are tools to help mask it.
Discord/mods can issue IP bans, and servers may have a bot or something on the dev side of things which can identify you without showing your IP. If it was this fast, you either used a similar name/photo or had an IP ban, or were identified some other way.
Don’t mess around in other peoples discord and try to sneak back in next time, they banned you for a reason mate.

The moral of this story is: don’t do something to get banned and then be a creep and try to sneak back in. I’m also not sure why this is where you’re looking for advice.

Feel lucky they didn’t contact Discord and get both your accounts deleted for dodging.

The answer simply is that someone probably noticed the account date and got suspicious.

After viewing your post history, it’s a bit apparent that whether or not people knew it was you, you get yourself banned quite often.
I’d ask what you did, but it’ll probably get you banned here.
Off topic but, theres a few people like that in a server i frequent about the souls series. They out themselves pretty quick but, everyones too chill to actually care until they do what got them banned in the first place again. Its kind of sad.

Not illegal at all and that’s how the internet works. Discord, and every other internet-based service, has to know your IP address because that’s the only way information get’s back to you. Discord doesn’t need to provide the ip address to the discord server owner doing the banning (though it would be 100% legal for them to do so) because Discord does that work for the server owner. Oh you want to ban this jerk, discord bans the account and then looks up the IP address it connected from and goes yep both are now banned
There are ways around it and I’m sure you’ll eventually figure it out. But why the heck should we help you troll some group who clearly doesn’t want you around?

Yes a different server as far as i’m aware. I was just sharing my own experiences with this particular issue. Sorry to confuse.

The server i’ve been in has had some people get banned and try to sneak back in. I thought it was somewhat relevant. I apologize for the confusion.
If you want an alt account to keep an eye on people you need to have one already made and ready to go. The newer the account the more likely they’ll know who it is.
