Hallo! (Inserts tray of cookies that little gnome does).
Anyway, Mythic leavers - I understand blizzard will not implement a punishment, that’s fine it shouldn’t be done due to them firstly not being able to identify a proper disconnect or a fake one. Also they should not enforce our social requirements. Sometimes people have to leave for an emergency ok?
Solution: - Input welcome
If somebody leaves the following happens ONLY after combat ends:
-
All NPCs become un-targetable and do not interact with you.
-
The timer freezes.
-
You can leave the dungeon to find a replacement.
-
Upon replacement the above all resume.
-
To combat exploits players will be teleported to "checkpoints" that may be X amount of distance from where they were at the time of the freeze so they cannot hit 100% trash mobs and freeze time and run past all the baddies.
-
To compensate for the potential 20 seconds of running 20 seconds will be added to the timer depending on how far back the checkpoint is.
-
As per a suggestion below to combat exploits, you cannot invite a character from the same account as the person who left, unless it is the same character that left.
-
Similar to the above, how do we handle planned substitutes from guilds/communities/friends. - Any suggestions?
-
How do we negate some people using this as a way to sell runs? - do we ban trading in the run other than items?
-
At what point do we consider vote kicks not eligible for this system? - Half way through the dungeon?
…Thoughts?
Ongoing edits as per below issues/suggestions.

No, just leaves the door open for abuse.

Thanks for you feedback Steevoh! Next time remember when you disagree please say why otherwise nobody has any idea what you’re talking about!
No. It encourages switching.
For this mob we need a mage, then a rogue, etc… people leaving to switch characters and come back in. It would be abused.
People leave because they get frustrated. Better communication goes a long way to reducing this. Get people in discord and talking to each other and you’ll prevent a lot of that frustration.

OK good thought, lets make another rule that blizzard implements, you cannot reinvite a NEW character that is from the same account that left the dungeon?
Same account, same guild, same community, friends list…
You guys sub for me here. I sub for you there.
No

Fair point! do you have any solution to this particular bit of the problem? we can collate them and improve the overall suggestion!
i have a solution… let the problum exist i need gold and it will make my carry group that much easier
You are a blood elf you can paint nails for gold!
Yeah I think the potential of abuse is just too great. That said, the question is does the abuse of a system outweigh the problems and frustrations caused by people leaving? Not really sure I can answer that one myself but I just don’t think there is a way to put a system in place to solve it in which that system will also not be abused.
The only real solution to date for this problem is to simply do stuff with a guild.

IMHO that works only on situations where all members of a group depend only from each other and in a mandatory way, wich means that you (and everybody else) don’t have another choice than work together. If your airplane crash in a desert island you have to agree with the survivors about how to do things in order to survive and get their goals, and that works because they don’t have another choice for survival than cooperate between them.
But when you are in a situation where memebers of a group have another choices that are not related to cooperate with the group in order to survive or get their goal, then always will be someone who will choose take his own way and leave the group. In this game happen, people leave the group because they know that can get something else, with the same toon or another toon.
Having this choices means have freedom, and this is the dark side of freedom, when people use it to screw others. And that is why rules and punishment is always needed and exist.
Just my two cents, i didn’t add any technical solution, but at least i tryed to sustain why is needed a penalty sistem on leavers.
Edit: @Darthcutie i love your name

How about you just find a group of friends and do these with them. Friends are less likely to leave than strangers.
So no I don’t not think changes should be made for this because this is one case where I think it is okay with strongly encouraging people doing content with friends/guildmates.

I think the system should be able to grab a random sub for you from the LFD heroic dungeon que.
The system asks the heroic person if they want to join.
This way you can not exploit and put in your friend.
This also gives a chance for new players to get used to the mythic plus system. The group can take it’s chances with the new guy after that, they may win or loose but at least it’s not a total bust.
As for the person who leaves, I think the head of their char should be transformed into a giant rear end for a hour. No actual penalties expt for the world knowing exactly what you did. (also a rear end appears in the group finder tool to warn everyone).

That’s a really good idea. In that way a potential leaver will be less willing to quite, for sure. And the warn should be in his whole account.

I think they should remove the timer, and the keys, and make it a normal scaling dungeon.
I never thought people should be punished for leaving with any sort of time out from playing. I think they should just get a de-buff on them with something that screams this person did a jerk move so everyone knows. I think if someone has this (jerk move/ rear end) de-buff they should be able to be quickly removed with only 1 vote for the entire time they are de-buffed.

The problem with fixing these problems is that someone with any sort of ambition will find a way to break anything more complex than a steel ball bearing.
You need to make sure that any fix at the very least, doesn’t have a way to extract value from the abuse.
The intentions are good but this system would have to be so complex to prevent any exploits that blizzard would never bother even attempting it.
