Look. I’m not a big fan of the price tag of the mount being 90 dollars. I’m not Mr money bags in game and or IRL but this is probably going to be the most positive take and idea for those who don’t want to shove 90 dollars up front.
Much like other games, typically there is a way to take your IRL cash and add it to their app currency (in this case the bnet currency.)
Put in $10 a week, every other week, or every month. Just bulk it up until you reach your target goal. If I recall correctly you can only go up to $500 so it’s not like you are losing a whole sum of money. Instead of buying that 9-12 dollar case of soda or McDs or whatever you typical pleasure yourself with, just add 10. You’ll be able to get the Mount or even the next expansion stress free and not even need to worry about it.
Again, I’m somewhere in between a low income to medium income individual who pays bills just like any person.
WoW is a hobby and if you wanna dump the money you know what, that’s ok. Just do it smartly.
Again I do not necessarily support the idea of a 90 dollar Mount or anything like that but if you just sit back and think about it, you can easily just get these things relatively stress free.
There’s literally no difference between paying $90 now and spreading it over multiple months. You’re still spending $90. I honestly have no clue what’s supposed to be ‘smart’ about this.
Strategies like these are why poor people always stay poor. Because they somehow convince themselves that shuffling around their money somehow means they spend less, when in reality they don’t.
Did you buy your car cash up front? Your home? Your cell phone? Other luxuries you personally own that required a large some of money or did you save up the money.
It’s not about being poor. It’s about understanding that you don’t need to rush and panic buy.
This post made me realize the importance of establishing goals and how ultimately it’s extremely stressful to create such a plan so I just bought the mount to avoid the stress.
Thank you for helping me make this informed decision!
Correct, this isn’t that serious. No big deal if this is where this ends. But it’s a bit naive to not consider how this could easily lead to upwards of $200-$300 a year of additional conveniences being locked behind store purchases. This came not too long after early access, the community can not even wait one day before swiping to quench their FOMO. The long-term repercussions of this will result in many thousands of dollars per player over the next decade of WoW not including the buying of every single expansion and the subscription. People will keep saying don’t worry about other people’s money and don’t be poor, etc. and if this only affected the people who purchased the mount and no one else, literally no one would care. But just as it goes in society, nobody ever thinks about what will happen next or how it can impact others, so the slippery slope continues .
The difference is you have more income over those months, so you spend a percentage of your income now and it totals a larger sum from a larger amount of income later.
Like
You get $1000 every week (it’s just a round number, poor people)
You put in $10 every week
That’s 1% of your income, and you have more to spend on food and rent in those weeks
Rather than 9% ($90) of your income in one week.
The best part is that there’s no interest on it doing it this way, because it just goes into a “savings account”.
So yeah, pretty much everyone knows that it doesn’t cost any more or less, it’s a budgeting strategy, which is not something that poor people do.
Might be time for you to take a break so you can have some space in your brain to think about stuff, bud.
If your income is so low and your saving habits so poor that the advice “save $10 a week” is a novel insight that resonates with you: Please do not buy this mount. Please save your money.
If you have to budget fast food or mcdonalds out of your weekly life to do this. … go get a double instead of a mcdoulble. You get an extra slice of cheese.
If you’re having to figure out ways to rig your finances to buy a FAKE ITEM … you’re doing it wrong.
The idea of making small sacrifices to save for things is good advice. But use it for REAL things. Fixing your car. Buying a new car. Buying a house. Improving your portfolio. etc etc etc
Are you saying poor people don’t know how to budget? I hope not, because that’s making assumptions. A lot of people don’t know how to budget, but not all of them are poor. A lot of people do know how to budget, and a number of them are poor. Being poor has nothing to do with knowing (or not knowing) how to budget. But not knowing how to budget is definitely going to keep a person from maximizing the use of their income–whatever level it is.
The fact that people feel like they have to purchase the brutosaur is exactly why Blizzard shouldn’t have released a convenience like this behind $90.
If you’re stressing about being able to afford this mount, then let me tell you some real advice, “Don’t buy it”. Spend the money on something important. Not an ugly time saver like this. In fact, get a paypiggy on your friends list to quest with you and demand that they mount up when you need it. If they’re going to spend their money on stupid crap, they deserve to be taken advantage of.
