How to get someone into WoW?

I have a long-time friend that I’m thinking of inviting to play WoW with me. How could I get them to like WoW?

Should I get them a boost and go into endgame? They’re very competitive so I think they might enjoy PVP and m+. Or would leveling from scratch be better since they’re new? Maybe show them around the world first?

Ask what they want to do.

Uhhh… You don’t get them into WoW…
They just need to play the game and if they don’t like it, that’s that.

Unfortunately, the new player experience is dog :poop:.

How new? Like no MMO experience new? Or new to WoW new? A lot of skills carry over from other games.

I would say for an absolute novice it’s good to level the class you want to play so you can learn it well.

I would warn your friend to avoid the community as they are mostly hyper-enfranchised manbabies.

I did exile’s reach yesterday and there were so many visual bugs that I feel bad for new players. Not looking forward to being stuck in bfa either.

They’re not really an MMOrpg type player, but they seem to like other RPG games. Also, they’re a god at the shooter game we play. IDK if that would translate over, lol.

Buy them a $5000 3D immersive gaming computer and chair. Tell them they can only use it to play WOW>

Some things might if you rebind their keys lol

I see Blizzard has still not fixed the black squares under spells in Exile’s Reach… Sad.

Personally I’d recommend them leveling from scratch then. That way they can learn their class in the low-stakes environment of questing. And they will get their spells slowly one at a time, that way they can figure out basic things like cooldowns and rotations gradually and naturally.

Just dumping a new player in the end game, with a spellbook of 30+ spells they have no idea what they do or how they work together, a full talent tree to fill out and all the end game systems to learn IMO they’d just get overwhelmed and quit.

You’ve got a good point. I hope they’ll be patient and make it to max level :weary:

Belf starting zone is what got me hooked initially.

You can’t most people don’t want to play bad games.

Yeah that is the challenge with new players in MMORPGs where the end game is the “true” game. They gotta slog thru leveling to get to the meat of the game.

I’d recommend making an alt from scratch and leveling with them, I’ve done that with a few buddies I’ve tried to get in the game over the years. It’s always more fun to play with friends, and you could help them out with tips and answering questions. Unless they just actively hate the game itself the social nature of it will hopefully keep them engaged till they reach end game.

Best of luck to y’all

Bribe them with something.

I mean, I’m willing to pay for their game and sub time since they’ve spent hundreds of dollars on me without letting me reciprocate. But is it selfish that the first thing I’m gonna buy them is to the game I like? lmao

Maybe I need something else as well?

Give them the tape and tell them to try it.

Play it with them make sure to do recruit a friend and you can show them bits and pieces of endgame.

Make sure to show them the funny stuff or suggest where to level that kind of thing. Who knows they may get into the funny bits of wow / collection or endgame or both!

I would think that starting from scratch and leveling a toon with them would be the best experience. The leveling experience is so short in comparison to what it used to be. It is just a such a good way to learn a class and the game and just navigating around the game. I remember when I started that was the biggest learning curve for me was navigating where everything was and how to get to places. When i started my buddy who got me into it rolled a fresh toon with me and we played together nearly every night for years. Some of my best in game memories to this day were the experience of leveling with my friend. I feel like leveling a new toon and doing it organically is the best way to do that but I could be wrong. I just think someone who has never played wow it would be a steep curve with a fresh 60.

I like making my own fun and messing around when it comes to introducing people. Me a two other friends used to “trio” old dungeons as low levels which was challenging and fun to do.

I definitely recommend going through with a fresh toon. Do NOT faceroll them through content. I did that with my brother to power level him up to max so he could play with me, and all it did was make him think the game was too easy and didn’t have mechanics whatsoever. :frowning:
