Start with classic before bringing them into retail. Do the BC one first imo.

I haven’t played since WoD and just came back let me tell you how accurate this is for me. I don’t know what any of my talents do, new abilities, demo spec completely different, and I have no idea how any “systems” work because they didn’t exist.
I basically have to level a new Warlock to 47 just so I can learn how to play this guy again.

Let them do what they want, as slow as they want. Just be along for the ride and give tips because leveling isn’t the long haul it used to be. Let them know of dungeons, PVP, all the features the game has and pray they’ll be into endgame content or whatever content you prefer lol

Play with them. Invite them to do stuff. Introduce them to solid communities.
You should always level from scratch at least once just because it provides some context. Even with leveling being a complete joke and a waste of time it does clearly have an effect because it’s not hard to distinguish between someone who’s fresh to 70 and a boosted character.
It takes less than 10 hours to hit max level. If you do what you can to help and encourage them to engage with the game, you’ve basically done everything you can to get them into it. There’s no accounting for personal taste, as it were.
If you were really their friend, you wouldn’t.

If they are a long time friend and wanted to play this game don’t you think they would have already unless you keep it secret from them.
