You cant MAKE a market trend just because itâs something you want. Peopleâs tastes change and now most people want more instant gratification and less grinding. Which is why ALL MMOâs are much less popular than they were.
WoW will never die, regardless of how many subs we have⌠the game is active, queues are popping. they are getting more than 1million $$ each month - itâs enough to keep this game going for ever.
Unlike other games like you said, Fortnite or whatever shooting game it could die yes, but why donât you get that the new generation isnât going to play WoW? regardless of what kind of change you are going to make?
Yes, we have new players⌠but those players donât play the game serious or more than once a week.
You have old school players that are playing casually + couple of new players that will quit or playing just because they are bored. and those 2% CE raiders.
So, the OP is asking for âAdd High Elfs and we will get 12million subsâ what kind of ⌠logic is this? no we arenât going to bring Wotlk activity all over again.
Our generation was into MMO games, the new generation isnât.
Sure you can. Ever heard of Apple? Their entire design philosophy is antithetical to doing the kind of market research youâre talking about. They create products that they want, but which also elevate the business. Steve Jobs was very adamant about NOT giving customers âwhat they want.â He decided what they should have, and those were Appleâs most successful years.
The same thing can be translated to almost any industry. Blizz needs to be a trend leader and show consumers what they should want (by being innovative and making excellent, high-quality products). They certainly have the resources, sans the 30% stock drop since Blizzcon.
This happens all the time - in music, cars, etc. Right now Blizz is just waffling lost in space compared to force-driven companies.
Thatâs admitting defeat. I hope you donât decide to run a business someday.
Itâs called adapting to a changing audience. Thatâs not what Blizz is doing, though. Theyâre very isolated because of their massive amount of hubris (thanks to past success) and thus believe anything they do is great. Other companies have done this too - like GM, GE, IBM, etc. That didnât turn out so well.
Their hubris was well on display at Blizzcon. Why do you think those poor little Diablo devs were so shocked at the boo-ing crowd? Thatâs how isolated and out-of-touch they are with their customers. Thereâs no way to succeed in that kind of work environment.
You said that âour generation was into MMO games, the new generation isnât.â So that means just manage decline, let it die? Or should the company innovate, change tactics, etc. to entice a new âgenerationâ of gamer?
Also, I didnât have to attack you personally to make my point.
I never said it was going to die. But what youâre talking about is âmanaging declineâ which never turns out well. Do you want an empty game? You must be one of those people who think paradise is a server filled with 500 like-minded Blizz fanatics.
This game loses subs because people grow up and move on to other things. Not everyone has time to play a game like this. So every now and again the sub numbers fluctuate. This game is the best MMO on the market and has been for over a decade. Just because you or a small population of forum users dont like it doesnt mean it isnt a successful game. WOW is more than successful. People come and go, numbers change. The bigger problem is people like the OP here are flat out lazy and feel entitled. He doesnt want to work for anything⌠he wants instant gratification. And Blizz should not be giving in to that.
This is really just a High Elves post surrounded by a lot of fluff isnât it? People arenât going to come running back to Wow because they removed Titanforging, added 5 spots to Mythic (most of the player base doesnât even do Mythic), and added master looter back. Really the only thing Iâd agree with in your list is MoP class design.
The gaming culture has changed too much in the last few years for WoW to ever hope to regain itâs glory days. Todayâs gamerâs donât have the will to commit to MMO type games such as this. There really arenât any MMOâs growing atm and every one that has come out since WoW has either gone under or is barely holding on.
Thatâs a shame because it makes gaming companies less like to venture into the MMO market. Youâre almost guaranteed failure. For us that is BAD.
Todayâs gamerâs never knew the joy of the original Warcraft series. There are no fond memories, no attachments, therefor itâs too antiquated by their standards. They want fast-paced shoot 'em ups, no journey for them. Nope.
On this day of thankfulness, be glad WoW is still has the numbers it does and the Devs. do âtryâ to keep the game going. Itâs glory days tho, are over and will never come back.
Itâs not the game, itâs the gaming culture of today.
