How to get 12 million subs back. Step by step guide

Titanforge creates inflated ilvls across the board. As a result, you feel forced to do content you otherwise would avoid or else you are at disadvantage. It creates a unhealthy situation where it feels like a carrot is being dragged away every time you reach it: its not fun, its stupid. And moreover, mythic raiding as a whole feels unrewarding because mythic gear ilvls can be obtained from M+10s chests if you spamm them hard enough while there is no masterloot anymore so you have literally better ways if you spamm +10, because of the lack of weekly lockout to do it. Hows that supposed to be an improvement over no TF and masterloot?

3b. I don’t see what it would do

3e. would bring relevance to JC

  8. I don’t really understand this one.
All in all not a bad list. I don’t agree with everything. I think a number of the suggestions would improve the game. Though I think the days of 12 mil subs are long gone. The market just isn’t large enough anymore to have a playerbase that big.

Bring back real tier gear, remove anything like azurite leveling and make crafting a known craft one time craft deal, quit overcharging ah fee on a 20 stack-- then I’ll play it.

That’s what I’m talkin’ about.

What does number 8 mean? Maybe Im just tired.

I never actually played during mop so i won’t comment on any of the design choices but a lot of the rest I don’t see as having a major impact on bringing subs back.

Due to number 5, i’ll just say this probably another one of those veiled high elf threads

…make a new game…MAYBE…uou have to remember many ppl joined WoW because they were on the bandwagon…b4 that it was because it was an mmo with newer gfx and more casual 12 mill subs now for an mmo is a long shot no matter how good

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this thread. I thought it was going to be another “remove flying, all gear catchups, all difficulties below mythic, make the game super grindy, add death penalties, etc”-type thread, but I legitimately agree with most of the things in the OP’s list. Although I am fine with how pathfinding is done.

Except 3b. I actually would prefer if we could do the highest difficulty with only 10 players again. I know there are more specs now but 10 players is really nice for that tightly-knit-group-of-friends feeling.

As people point out on this thread, the new generation are into “matches” games, MOBAS, pugb, fornite, overwatch, etc. They aren’t into grinding just to get rep or an item, they want to play a 10 to 20 min match after match and that’s it.

I agree with so much here… Only one I am iffy on is the 25man… I understand more class more spots but thats also 5 more people u have to keep on roster if not more for ppl who miss… just make it harder to keep group going each week

I like the idea here. I think that might get more subs back, but I saying it will be 12 million is a guess. Blizzard could be doing this for the next expansion.

this was seriously your opening point?

I beg…and I mean I seriously beg WoW to do this. Give me back my 2h Frost DK. Let me feel like a death knights again. Legion class design with the visuals of our artifact …without being stuck into a 1h play style. Make Obliterate do Frost or Shadow dmg. I’ll buy a yr sub for that.

great ideas, but be careful some on the forums get salty when you seemingly insult their precious.

I’d be throwing money at my computer if Blizzard did this.

Imagine thinking removing titanforging would bring anyone back.

I love how these “How to Save WoW” posts all read like a grocery list of things GD cries about.

I mean… WF/TF is a pretty garbage system and a symptom of a bigger disease in terms of WoW’s itemization right now.

Wow has a lot of issues, that is just one of many.

I wish I could like this more than once. This game is 15 years old. That’s damn near ancient as far as gaming goes. Most of today’s players simply lack the attention span/desire to play a game as in depth as WoW. Everything these days is all about instant gratification, that “I want it and I want it NOW” mentality. The unfortunate reality of it is that WoW has become a very dated game. Sure, not all younger players are like that (my 13 year old loves playing WoW and can’t stand Fortnite), but the vast majority are and that’s reflected in declining subs.

That’s why bringing back Classic was such a brilliant move on Blizzard’s part. Old school players who were around during WoW’s peak (for the most part) aren’t too thrilled with what this game has become and are nostalgic for “the good old days”, so they’re willing to pay that $15/mo sub just to get access to the Classic servers. My old server actually has an “OGs” discord where we’ve been planning and coordinating things in preparation for Classic. Yesterday when name reservations went live that channel was flooded with people excitedly chatting and figuring out who’s going to play what class. In some cases, these are people I haven’t talked to or seen in game in over a decade and they’re all coming back solely for Classic.

Sorry, but I strongly disagree. At WoW’s peak, it was the dominant MMO on the market. No other game came even close to the numbers they were touting. Due to poor design decisions, burnout, natural decay, and the emergence of strong competitors, there are now at least 4 HIGHLY successful MMOs one can play.

I think the overall numbers of players in the genre hasn’t actually changed much. They are now just spread out between WoW, FF14, Guild Wars 2, and Elder Scrolls Online. All of these are pretty great games in their own way, and people have way more choices where to spend their money.

That being said, I would wager that almost everyone currently playing an MMO has at least tried WoW, and with some design changes/new direction, it could easily pull people back.

Perhaps one day, mmos will make a come back. Don’t see a new AAA mmo title these days
