How to fix TBC Arena Participation

Best way to improve arena representation is to patch the game to 3.3.5

This right here. 100 percent accurate.
The “elitist” in pvp don’t want fair game play so of course they will bash these kind of posts or defend why s1 gear isn’t for regular honor points yet. Cause they know once s1 gear becomes available for regular honor points they’re gonna QQ on the forums and say pvp is dead now cause they know they can’t handle a fair match

I can only speak for myself but the reason I stopped playing arena is because I hated it.

Racials are way too overpowered for something that is trying to be balanced PVP.

Class balance is way off.

RNG like resists on CC and Heartbeat CC are just so dumb I can’t even fathom why they exist in the first place.

Yeah things like the gear being locked behind rating was something I didn’t agree with but ultimately it doesn’t matter because of how unenjoyable PVP as a whole became for me.

I think racials are interesting in pvp. Wotlk is when racials become broken (Humans only)

That’s always been a problem since arena came out in 2007.

I agree since if you’re hit capped for pvp then why should your spells be resisted or melee hit miss. I can understand dodge or parry.

Originally s1 and s2 never had this for shoulders and weapons. Only s3/s4 and rest of wrath.
I do agree the requirements is dumb

Not farming boring dead BGs for 300 hours for a season 1 set.

Rather rank to 14 again in classic lol.

You want to fix Arenas and PVP in general…not to mention other short comings, it’s a no brainer. Dual Spec. I can’t play as much as I was able to when I was in my 20’s. It’s absymal how useless pve specs are in pvp, and visa versa. I’d Arena every week. I’d PVP every day for a couple hours. I can’t spend 100 gold every day to respec. 50 to turn and 50 back.

Literally all you have to do is increase honor gains, problem solved.

I’d arena if I didn’t have to respec to do it. Also S1 gear should be buyable with honor.

I pvped in wrath a lot more because I didn’t need to pay 100g a week just to blow off steam and goof around to pvp.

The gear gap in retail is 10 times worse than TBC. In TBC I have 2 Druids, 1 in full merciless with s2 weapons and one in 2 piece rep/2 piece s1 gear with Kara weapons. The difference between the 2 is so minimal. My fully geared druid usually hangs out around 2.1k cr and my crap geared druid hangs out around 2050 cr. My partner on my geared druid is also better. I honestly can barely tell the difference.

But yet I get bashed for pointing this out.

I don’t understand the big deal about the requirements on gear. My getting s2 shoulders on my Priest is literally -4 intellect, +2 resil, +2 stam, and +120 armor. This is not deciding any matches or ruining the game in any way. BIS for most peoples weapons are from PVE. I dont PVE so do I get to cry about the unfair fact I have to kill a boss to get my BIS weapon? Yet people who are PVE mains that casually do arena and dont put any time into getting good should be granted free PVP items?

Same reason people want bis when they raid. Gear is the incentive. Gatekeep in an already unpopular game mode and it will die further. In principle I don’t really have an issue but if you want fresh blood to play you gotta let them eat

I agree with OP. Also, dual spec would boost participation a lot. Both should be done, which is why they won’t be since blizzard can’t be bothered to communicate anything, let alone fix actual problems.

Yes. This is why wow eventually makes the best pvp weapons come from pvp like in retail currently. People cried until they improved the game and let people who enjoy pvp play pvp for their BiS gear.

If you’re good at pvp, you don’t want to gatekeep the gear to people who are hardcore arena players only. You would want more “casual arena players” to obtain the gear easier so they participate more in arena.

Not saying give them free items but right now a casual arena player has to queue for like 4 weeks for one piece of gear. They won’t unlock 1850 weapons or shoulders. They see this and just avoid arenas all together and raid log.

If the pvp gear was more accessible to pve mains that casually pvp, tbc pvp wouldn’t have so few players actually playing.

Literally this. I laugh so hard every time i spend 2+ weeks of points on a s1->s2 upgrade to gain +2 agi +3 stam. Sure, conceptually speaking, rating requirements on gear is dumb but the great thing about tbc/wotlk is that it wasn’t obtuse enough to actually affect your matches. Certainly not enough to warrant changing a 15 year old game.

the truth? for every spec in the game, be it healer or dps, caster or melee, getting the BiS pve weapon from that tier is probably worth more than the entire step up from s1->s2 mainsets combined.

Sounds like something you could test out

Quoted for truth.

Rating requirements still on gear creating artificial barriers…
Honor gains abysmally low… STILL…
People who took breaks like me from season 2 and coming back are at an even greater disadvantage because of gear. Even if i hit 1850 just to be able to unlock weapon requirements doesn’t feel good. It’s a huge struggle.

People claim, and their argument is that 1 piece of gear doesn’t matter, but the fact remains is, you still need 5 pieces plus pvp weapons. That’s more than just “+2 stam, +1 resil, +2 attack power+”, its much higher. Hell, even melee gear this season has an additional stat of ignoring armor. I can’t believe people act like gear isn’t a huge factor. It might not be the reason why your 1400, but it will be the reason why the ladder continually shrinks.

Most players who are good at this game have voiced their opinions on streams already on how they feel. It boils down to a couple of things.

People want to climb rating, in a relatively fair way. It’s hard to balance a racial, but most people have accepted that as flavor of the game.

People don’t want to lose to things like gear gaps. Getting hit harder, doing less damage, having less health, healing for less, and going oom faster are frustrating and harmful to the playerbase. Certain strats are only viable with full gear because you might not be able to do the damage or survive to execute said strats. Guides also become frustrating to take into consideration as the play style is different when you know you can sit a full cheap kidney, or survive a pom pyro. Actually being able to play the game is more enjoyable than not.

People want to be able to play in a timely manner. So 300 hour bg grinds to get honor off pieces is another thing that is killing the arena scene. Most players run befween 350 to 400 resil on average, with a few pve pieces mixed in. Most pve pieces that are mixed in, however, are not shoulders, and some classes can skate by with pve weapons, but not all. Those who don’t have the experience to achieve the ranking of what is most likely the top 10% give or take a few % of the ladder board for all 3 brackets is not something that is healthy. It discourages new players from trying and thus causing a decline in the player pool.

A whole lot of problems, with very little, if literally nothing being done about it. Very sad.
