well figured out why. paid all this money for nothing. guess at&t doesnt allow sms protect if you dont go post paid or some sort of message system i have to pay for. at least from articles i found. can i still play game without this sms protect?

You can. It just adds an extra layer of protection to your account. You will:

  • Get a text message if your account is locked by a suspicious login attempt
  • Know immediately if your password has been changed
  • Be alerted when security features are changed on your account

It also helps recover your account in the event of a compromise.

I don’t know a phone carrier in North America that actually makes you pay extra to be able to send and receive texts! That’s crazy is at&t makes you pay extra for that. I’d recommend shopping around for a different carrier if that’s the case.

Keep in mind, SMS Protect is not anything that AT&T has control over, nor does it cost any money. It only requires that you are able to send and receive text messages. Nothing more.

In fact, no phone carrier can technically block or make you pay for Blizzard’s SMS Protect service, since Blizzard offers it free.

What they can do is charge you extra for sending or receiving text messages on your phone, which would be crazy in my opinion.

You’re forgetting that for a long time prepaid numbers were blocked from sms protect based on the fcc database. This may be a remnant of that.

well in my phone the option to enable sms messages is greyed out. they are the ONLY carrier that even has 30$ prepaid plans anymore. Is there anyway to enable this that anyone knows or am i doomed?

That’s a question for AT&T. They’re your service provider.

I use AT&T prepaid and had no issues setting up SMS protect.

did you have to add anything extra to the prepaid plan? was it the 30$ one?

Google says the $30 AT&T PAYG plan includes unlimited text messages, so in theory you should be OK. I don’t know why it doesn’t seem to be working for you. This seems to be something you’ll need AT&T tech support to help you work out.

so i tried logging in using app now its stuck at authenticating help! then i go back to app and its back at screen says log in.

No I didn’t add anything

okay so i checked and i guess my phone has sms texts it just for some reason isnt enabled for battle net app. dunno why. do i need to do something to enable it? i followed steps in that one linked article.

Follow the instructions given by Kyzera earlier. I’ll link it again for convenience.

Click the big blue button and it should start the process to enter your mobile phone number to the account for SMS Protect.

Try removing your number and putting it in again from your account setting. I had the same problem and that fixed it.
