How to create an account for my child

Hi,

I’m trying to figure out how to make an account for my child. She’s made a couple character on my account to try out but we’d like to play together.

I’m running into two problems-

  1. when I try to create an account for my child using the account create for a child, it immediately goes to “unable to process request”. She’s under 13 if that’s relevant.

  2. When I try to create a new account under my name it doesn’t let me use my email/phone number because they are already associated with my existing account.

Can anyone tell me the best way to proceed?

Thanks

Yes, that is relevant. The EULA does not allow children under 13 to play WoW.

Yes, an email can only be used for one Battlenet account, same with a phone number. Each Bnet account needs a new one.

You can do this but you would have to use a different email and different phone number for that Battlenet account. Then set up Parental Permissions on it as well. When she gets old enough you can change the first name on it yourself to the name of the child. This assumes you have the same last name.

Thanks for the response! I’ll think some more about how to proceed.

The best way to do it is definitely to have the child on a separate Battlenet account. Then set up parental controls. At 13 it can be in the name of the child then you have the parental controls on it. Those get removed at 18.

Under 13 technically is not supposed to be playing… But if it were me I would set it up in my name with a different email an phone number. Set up parental controls. Then change the name when the child gets old enough. That lets you play together and she keeps all her achievements, pets, mounts, transmogs, etc.

Should note that shell be starting fresh since they cant transfer toons to the acciunt if she got attached to the ones she did try.

Yeah I figured that would be the case. She hasn’t logged many hours, so it should be ok other than being attached to the names.

They used to do it but they retired it last month still happy gaming.

Don’t forget to set up Recruit-a-Friend when you make the new account.

Yep…the way it is now is better in the long run than it was before. Before the child was mostly encouraged to use the parent’s account (which is still allowed). But, that would result in them losing everything they earned when they turn 18 and need their own account. Starting out with a separate battle.net account for the child is by far the best long term solution as they will be able to keep everything they earned.
