How to back up Total RP 3?

Hoping someone here can help me.

I learned the hard way that the game updating tends to wipe all your addon settings. Looked up what to do, people recommended you back it up in the future, but the file you’re supposed to access (Saved variables > TotalRP3.lua) doesn’t seem to exist on my computer (the only files in the folder are Blizzard_console and Blizzard_console.lua.bak)

What should I be doing here to make sure my files are backed up properly?

You can export your TRPs and throw them in a Google Doc. Then, when you need to import them back in, you just copy/paste.

Just for the record, if you ever want to backup the file itself, it’s actually saved in Account > [the folder named after your account ID] > SavedVariables. The totalRP3.lua file in there should be the one that has all your profile information in it - you can open it up in Notepad to check.

There’s multiple SavedVariables folders, but the many TRP3 lua files are specifically at: World of Wacraft -> retail -> WTF -> Account -> Your Account’s Name -> SavedVariables

There’s also the various realm and character-specific SavedVariables folders, and it can get pretty confusing on what to actually save (happened to me in the past and lost everything, thankfully I had a semi-recent Google Docs).

Personally, I back-up my retail WTF folder daily to a separate drive to try and capture as much of my addon info as possible.

Last few posts are spot on. I’d just add that what you’ll see for “your account name” may look like a string of numbers rather than a recognizable name.

One other thing to note is that other people who have interacted with you in such a way that would allow them to see your TRP profile will have a cached copy of it (for a certain amount of time).

If you ever lose your TRP info AND your backups, you can maybe get help from a friend. It’s important to note that if you lose that info and they access your profile (in-game) it will overwrite the real stuff with a blank slate though.

You just need a pal who hasn’t seen your TRP in a while, but also hasn’t had it fade out of cache.
