Alrighty, everyone, I have had it!
All the messages and notes in people’s TRP profiles about how an update cleared their profile, or how something got deleted in their work and so on pushed me over the edge. I have been backing up my TRP profiles for years now and it has saved my sanity I swear, well what is left of it anyway.
To help out I have made a short and easy to follow guide for people to actually back up their TRP Profiles. It pains me every time I see the words ‘TRP wipe’ in someone’s OOC Information. As I do not yet have the ability to link pictures on the forums I did it on my website so please check it out and save your profiles from entering the Nether!

This is actually really great and I had zero idea the export function was available.
Seems like putting the exported code into google docs could also be super useful for switching profiles between different computers, for those of us who have WoW on more than one PC. (I use a laptop and a desktop both, personally.)
Thanks for this!

I prefer Google Docs simply so that I do not forget to transfer over a Notepad file to a new computer. I lost a profile doing that and it was sad lol

Wow, this is a really nifty website that you use… I’m starting to get ideas on where to finally move my outdated-as-heck website and keep all our information. It has an incredibly sleek look but a touch of those older websites, with the view count and other BBcode at the bottom. Where did you find this?

I’ve been using WorldAnvil since it’s early release a little over two years ago for my personal book worldbuilding. I have access to multiple world’s so making one the guild was a no brainier for me. I honestly don’t know where I got the original site from though lol. There is a free version of course that allows the full use of the site but I pay for a membership to support the creators which give me some extra access.

Thank you for the reminder. I’m usually a minimalist when I fill out my profile but for Altielle I’ve been adding stuff over time and it would be heart breaking to lose it all. Have it just how I want it. Definitely doing this when I get home.

Also useful for when you’re moving computers, and/or of you play on multiple machines.
I didn’t have a TRP profile on my work computer for the longest time before I figured out how to copy the relevant file. Now I keep both machines updated, AND have a backup!
That said, while this way is great, if you have a ton of TRP profiles for multiple characters. its easier to just copy the full file from the WTF folder (I think it is.) That’s a one stop shop copy/paste for every bit of profile data you have.

Would this theoretically work for MRP?

The easiest way is to just back up your account profile folder in your WTF.

Bold of you to assume I had anything written down in the first place rather than writing that and pretending I had some cool huge story that will never be rewritten
I can do you one better! There’s a .txt document in your SavedVariables under your account # and server for trp3 as it saves addon data, and you can just copy the whole thing, put it ina google doc or dropbox and copy and paste what’s in there if something happens so you don’t have to keep clicking the import button

Soo… what if your trp is larger than 20 kB? Exporting isn’t working for me.
