That would actually be something. Or a naga. But the thing is what makes them interesting is the reason why they won’t be added.
We already have them. 2 of them in fact. I don’t get why people are so hung up about it.
Earthen are at least made out of rocks so are visually different from the other 2 dwarves and even that is too many dwarves. High elves would be indistinguishable from blood and void elves.

I can think of a few customization options for them, but only the kind that made me hate the LFD: the kind that should be rolled into the parent race rather than being its own separate category. I don’t mind if they expand on HE-friendly customizations like hair and tattoos and such, but personally I would be happy if they kept it tied to VElves and BElves respectively.
Should be permanately destroyed in Midnight.
Perfect outcome: Vereesa Windrunner and her son gets killed for her quite frankly hypocritical and borderline evil past actions and her hubris against her own kind. Remaining high elves get turned into void creatures.

Earthen are not a neutral race, they are a two-faction race.
WoW does not have any playable neutral races. Every playable race is either one-faction races, like the original races and the allied races up until now, or two-faction, like Pandarian (after which Blizzard said they would never do it again) and Dracthyr (when Blizzard did it again).
The whole basis for High Elves is that they choose to stick with the Alliance; it is what give them their cultural distinction.
So I will take that bet.

But npc’s will not call them high elves and they will not get high elven racials. As such they can at most cosplay high elves. This probably at the core of the problem for the high elf fans.

We already have two neutral races with the ability to choose like that so yes.
instead of this nonsense, make all high elves merge into the horde and become blood elves or drink void juice to become void elf under alleria leadership
no more high elves, only blood and void elves.
instead of a third identical elf we can get ethereals, broken, amani trolls and ogres

based on recent interviews midnight is when the break down of the factions actually begins again, and i speculate aleria is to blame specially since what happened last time she was in silvermoon. just being near the sunwell caused void from inside her to mass summon void beings.
no wows elves are based on warhammers which predates that.
It will be the funniest thing imaginable when they do not become some sort of separate race because they technically already are playable.
What I’d like to see is for blood elves to get 100x more options than void elves and have any amount of their identity restored to them.
