How much will level 60 PvP gear cost in prepatch?

I’ve got my Paladin at 60, that I leveled near launch. He’s in a more or less preraid bis set, he’ll be fine, but I’m looking to tear right out of the gate come TBC launch, and want a better set of gear for the leveling process than my hodgepodge of kind of bad int/str gear. Looking to go ret or prot in TBC. PvP gear looks incredibly well optimized for both specs, having high spell damage and strength, and it dwarfs just about everything in Classic but Avengers, which I dont have the care to farm.

Question is, will the rank requirements be dropped for PvP gear come TBC prepatch, and if so, what will the prices be for all of the pieces? I don’t need Grand Marshal, mostly looking at the rank 7 blue Knight’s gear. Google isnt super helpful.

I don’t recall prices, but I do think they require marks and honor. You might want to start stashing WSG, AB and AV marks now.

If they don’t require marks, the level 70 stuff will.

around 100k honor.

The rank requirement is dropped yes.

It will probably take around 18 hours of gameplay to get full GM gear.

The rank requirements will be dropped and instead you need to farm honor (which’ll be a currency) and BG tokens. I don’t have the cost of the blue stuff anywhere, just the grad marshall stuff which is as follows.

Weapons:

2 handers are 40 AV tokens and 30k honor
ranged weapons and offhands are 40 AB tokens and 15.3k honor
1 handers and shields are 20 AB and 15.3k honor

Armor:

Helm Costs 13005 honor points and 30 AV
Chest Costs 13770 honor points and 30 AB
Shoulders Costs 8415 honor points and 20 AB
Boots Costs 8415 honor points and 20 AB
Gloves cost 8415 honor points and 20 AV
Leggings cost 13005 honor points and 30 WSG

Full set without weapons:

65025 honor points, 50 Alterac valley marks, 70 arathi basin marks, and 30 warsong gulch marks.

With two 1-handers and a ranged you’re looking at 100k honor 50 AV 150 AB and 30 WSG

One more thing to note. Honor is greatly reduced in the prapatch. A kill only grants like 42 honor and an objective is the same.

Some other good advice which I’m told is pretty common is to hold onto the tokens so you can convert them into honor as soon as prepatch launches so you can have a headstart on your set.

It’s 1 mark for a loss, and 3 marks for a win, correct? If that’s the case, there’s a snowball’s chance in hell I actually bother. Alliance is pretty abysmal from the couple afternoons I’ve put into BGs over the last month. Probably a better use of my time to go right into Ramps farm if I want gear.

I’d argue you’re looking at 24-25 hours.

If you LOST every game you’re looking at the following:

Average AV game is about 12 minutes atm (*50) = 10 hours
Average AB game is about 20 minutes atm (*70) = 23 hours
Average WSG game is about 20 minutes atm (*30) = 10 hours
Plus another 8 hours of AV for a 2handed weapon if you’re a pally.

10+23+10+8 = 51. Assume you win every other game you’re earning 4 makes per two games instead of 2 marks. That cuts the time in half. Roughly 25 hours.

I’d hang onto the marks. Honor is easier to farm than the marks (especially if your faction loses a lot…)

Alliance doesn’t win even close to 50% of random BGs in Classic lol. Yeah PvP is gonna be a hard pass from me. What a shame, it’s really well itemized.

Alliance have been rather decent in AV recently (or were a month ago) we were actually winning 2/3.

Personally, I’d run enough AVs to try to at least get the 2-hander if you’re going ret. That’ll make the biggest difference. (Well, depending what your weapon is). If you win 50/50 you’re looking at 4 hours. give or take.

Edit: For AB and WSG i was winning about 40%.

Also, you can stock up to 20 of each mark now and hold them till prepatch. Makes it faster then.

Gear that will take you all the way to 70 sounds like a pretty good deal.

I’ve already got an Obsidian Edged Blade, and I can farm for the Hellglaive in Ramps right out of the gate. Weapon is the least of my concerns. I’m mostly looking at armor to replace some of the spellpower leather and cloth and pure str/stam plate.

Yeah, my paladin is in mostly T1 with the same sword. I don’t really care about replacing my gear now. It’ll make the quest and dungeon rewards feel more useful.

If you just want a few quick peices, helm and gloves (which both require AV) will probibly take you about 2 hours each. When prepatch drops we’ll be looking at fairly consistant 12 minute games with 50/50 or 60/40 win ratios for ally.

Grinding out pvp gear is particularly useful for lvl 58 boosted characters. Assuming boosted characters have the horrible gear the lvl 58 templates have on beta.

If they actually have dungeon blues like blizz originally said they would…probably still worth grinding the pvp gear lol.

I mean it’s spending 30+ hours to save what, 3 or 4 hours during leveling, realistically speaking? Everyone’s gonna be farming Heroic Dungeons for a while anyways, and if I’m playing protection for that phase of the game, I’ll have a much faster and easier time just grinding at 70 than I will at 60, in addition to being able to network with players during that process.

Yeah if games are more balanced and shorter than they are now, maybe I’ll consider farming for some of the bigger items, but the marks seem totally prohibitive by the standard of today’s random BG ques. I have no clue if map/systems rebalances will even out the PvP matchmaking, but I’m pretty sure Alliance has like a <20% winrate from the 8 odd hours of PvP i did this month for fun. Players just seem less skilled, less geared, and less coordinated on Ali. Looking at it from a 50/50 perspective seems ludicrous and naive to me.

You’re looking at the random BGs of now. You missed the ones when they first came out (phase 3) and the ones from the two weeks after TBC was announced (when everyone was farming their 20 marks to save till prepatch)

When the sweaty organized players hit, 50/50 is actually rather reasonable.

Trust me, I farmed about 60 of each mark across multiple chars during that two weeks after blizzcon. AV was a 66% win, AB and WSG were 40-50%

I farmed the full epic sets on my toons during the original pre patch. The blue and purple gear cost the same so there was no reason to get the blue gear.

It probably took me a good 25 hours per toon to collect the full set on each.

This is defiantly a valuable point though. Based on guildies in the beta, stuff melts in T3 but still dies quite fast in dungeon prebis. And hellfire quests will grant you T1 equiv gear. Ramparts was also said to melt rather quick in t1.

It boils down to how quick do you want to hit 70. You can “pre”-load your time up front to make the journey quicker (if you want to get multiple chars to 70 for example). But if you don’t really care how fast you go, it’s probibly not worth it.

If you are going to get the marks you might as well get gm gear. That requires 70ab, 30ws, and 50av marks without weapons. You can get 20 of each mark at the moment. However the bracers, amulet, rings, trinkets, cape and libram are not covered by marshal-gm gear. If you raid 20mans you can get substitutes for most of these items and for trinkets those from brd should cut it(hoj, burst of knowledge, force of will). The zg rep amulet and av rep ring should be good pre tbc bis.
