They weren’t prepared for the legion. Of course an iron age species is going to be tricked by a super powerful demon named The Deceiver when they aren’t made aware that he will come with lies and illusory magic.

No, the orcs did not defeat the legion by themselves. We’d have to ignore the Draenor Draenei, the Horde, the alliance, plus Khadgar and the Kirin Tor for your WoD scenario to make any lick of sense

They imprisoned Guldan and Gorefiend and used them as batteries to invade other worlds because their grip on draenor was so secure that any demons thereupon could do nothing to stop them.

The fall of the legion didn’t happen until the last patch of the expansion when Archimonde and Co were finally defeated by the efforts of the AU Orcs, Draenei, Khadgar and alliance and horde champions
The Iron Horde was already broken by the time the orcs finally drank the fel juice and became Fel Orcs loyal to the legion
