How many of you will actually stop playing retail WoW?

I haven’t played retail in 5 years. Now, with classic, I am sure i will never go back to that snoozefest.

i can’t stop what i wasn’t doing in the first place.

Retail toon necros 10 month old thread with a wall of text, so that 50 more classic players can post on the classic forum to make it clear that they prefer to play classic.

Cool.

In no particular order of significance:

Titanforging.
Timegating.
Endless AP grinds.
The talent system.
Ability pruning.
Four difficulties of each raid.

If they changed all of that, I’d consider playing retail, but I wouldn’t outright abandon Classic, either, because it’s only a matter of time until Blizzard ruins it again.

Wait, People actually played retail? I thought that was just a poor joke

Even with all the new stuff coming up and the bee mount stuff ive lost any Intrest in it. Its just more the same packaged slightly different.

If they release a new expansion and it’s not full of time gated rep grinds, especially to unlock new races, classes, or flying, and there’s no crappy azerite power system, then I’d definitely play retail again.

But I have very little hope that the current design philosophy of BfA isn’t just gonna continue over into whatever new expansion they put out.

I quit retail right when Cataclysm was released because of changes to the game experience stemming from the LFG tool. I resubbed for Classic, and am loving it.

I started playing in Everquest, pre-Kunark (EQ version of Vanilla). That game was no joke. Some of it’s mechanics were so strict that they literally changed every MMO coming after it. I left WoW after I blew through the Cata expansion in a week. You get a sense of accomplishment (even though, yes, it’s a game) that Retail doesn’t provide.

As for the second part quoted, if they made Retail more difficult and in line with EQ/Vanilla WoW, sure, I’d play. Classes, races, new things to try. Won’t ever happen though.

When you were level 115 at low ilevel, you cant mow multiple mobs. You have to gear your toon first. Yes, me at ilevel 435, i can mow down 50 mobs of the same level with focusing iris. But the special effects of the nuke seeing hundred thousand DPS is awesome… something I wont see in Vanilla.

On Vanilla, there are some levels where quests are not enough to level you up. Grinding is required. One thing I hate up to now.

You can have multiple toons in Classic as well for multiple professions but FREAKING HARD/EXPENSIVE. In Retail, you can max it out easily without spending that much.

Depends on your “Casual” definition. If the “Casual” you mean are noobs, yes, BFA is not for them. But for “Casual” who used to be hardcore but just have few playing time right now, can still beat Mythic Raiding. This toon has beaten Emerald Nightmare Mythic and I was casual… maybe 2 to 4 hours a day, 4 times a week.

It wont give you Ferrari. But it will give you a tool to get the Ferarri. Mythic+ is meant to aid people to beat highend raids… It doesnt make you Mythic Raider. It will give you gear to startup Mythic Raiding . You missed Battle of Dazar Alor? It would give you epics to go straight to Eternal Palace raiding. In Classic, people left behind in Black Wing Lair will never EVER SEE AQ40.

Vanilla’s quests are not perfect either. You are on the area then the freaking quest asked you to go to Alterac Mountains, Dustwallow Marsh and STV. Do you want me to find quest items manually? No thanks.

Let’s say. I have 2 hours to play. I went to Maraudon. It should be enough. Getting all your party to get there is 15 min minimum. Wipes and it extends. Run back from outside the dungeon? Someone left and needs replacement? That’s 20 min delay right there? A M+10 is just around 35 to 45 min.

yes. retail is bad.

I haven’t logged into retail once since classic launched and I haven’t even read about any upcoming content.

I stopped playing Retail back in May. Classic had very little to do with it. I’m just glad I’ve got Classic to occupy my free time.

You mean play my retail rogue and play tickle-me-Elmo, stun bot dance party USA nerf/buff rollercoaster or melee warlock?

My classic rogue plays largely how it should, what I remember, and what I like. Will i unsub? Probably not. I will log in to set up auctions from time to time.

Do i care about a game that largely caters to the OPINIONS of streamers, M+ racers, and the five people still queing arena? Nope not really.

i mean, i haven’t started really, my sub lapsed the 3rd week of BFA, i only resubbed for classic.

I still play retail more than I play classic.

Actually what im thinking is if classic is huge success, maybe, just maybe next retail xpac reverts back to classic talents and gameplay, but some of the no brainer QoL additions. Something like this:

Imagine Sylvannas or some other enemy cannot be defeated, the only one who can is Illidan. Tbc is rereleased as classic+ with the narrative of recruiting Illidan, not defeating him. Whichever vilian we need illidan to stop essentially replaces him in the dark temple.

As Im writing this im thinking blizz should take me onto their dev team, lol. Feel free to flame away, just wanted to share my dream scenario that classic influences changes in retail.

No.

I have no current plans to stop anything.

I think it’s funny that this thread got necro-ed. I uninstalled Retail a few weeks before Classic came out, and haven’t looked back. Classic is exactly what I was after.

M+ is still the dominant activity, and I don’t like timers. Invasions are timegated. Quests are timegated. Story is timegated. Artifact power is timegated. And the final nail in the coffin? All these grinds vanish the second the new expansion comes out.

To the people who do love Retail? I think that’s awesome. You guys have a blast with the new content. I have what I wanted =D
