I went through the exact same thing. It seemed like they were finally fixing what had gone wrong in wrath and then they doubled down instead. The cata dungeons pre-nerf were amazing.
In till Retail feels meaningful and not welfare gearing systems and casual infected festering puss pile it developed into after Wotlk - MoP Everything after MoP was just depressing. Pvp was ruined and it felt like they raped pvp on purpose they even manged to kill World defense which was amazing for wpvp going to help low level towns and quests etc. THEY RAPED PVP Servers also I just don’t support what blizzard turned into most of the devs that developed the game are now long gone…Pvp vendors felt meaningful for pvp players capping Conquest and using honor on lesser tier. NOW wow is a rng cest pool of simplistic class mechanics since “Prune and class fantasy” PUKES Played wow off and on for 12 years and was a hardcore fan and never unsubbed from Tbc > MoP after Mop bad things happen and i quit playing like i use to. I love blizzard I hate blizzard. Please blizzard fix the broken gem of a game Shoulden’t have to play old xpacks that are re-released fix the damn game we all fell in love with and don’t milk people of old content we already conquered make relevant content we can love again…
Your thread title is implying that I’m even playing retail to begin with.
Honestly I’ll still pop onto BfA to RP pretty often, but when I want to “play the game” I’m gonna end up logging into Classic.
I guess if a big RP scene erupts in Classic I might settle in there, but I like the variety of races available in BfA when it comes to RP situations.
I loved the Cata dungeons pre- AND post-nerf. They were just amazing. I loved the difficulty of the pre-nerf dungeons, but ‘Oceanic lag’ meant I could never seem to get an interrupt off against Baron Ashbury until post-nerf (they increased the window of opportunity to interrupt). But it was, IMO, the only thing that bothered me about the pre-nerf dungeons.
They would have to fix the lore and give us good plot lines to develop on over the next 5 years for me to ever play again. Saying that, its to late for that to happen.
BLIZZARD THERE’S A GIANT SWORD IN AZEROTH.
“Meh you guys hear about the battle on 2 random islands no one asked for?”
Right now my desire to play Retail is all but gone. Went so quickly tbh, I’m in a guild and still raid but… all my friends are pretty much just waiting for Classic.
The Classic waiting room eh?
I will play classic at maybe 10% the rate I play live. It will be 2020 before I cap a character probably but it’s something else to do in between tiers.
I will stop playing retail wow because it sucks and classic is fun.
I stopped a month or two after BFA landed.
I probably won’t log in to retail very much at all except maybe once in a great while for maintenance type things, checking mail, AH, etc.
Problems I have with BfA:
- there is no sense of a cohesive world, heroic dungeons and LFR teleport you inside the instance (so you never even learn how to get to the damn place in preparation for mythics / normal mode raiding). Cross-realm zones / phasing.
- Grinding artifact power. This was never an issue until WoD, Legion, and BfA. BfA is especially offensive because you can’t use gear that you find until you grind your “magical amulet power”. Just ridiculous.
- It doesn’t even feel like an RPG anymore. Starting in WoD but especially in Legion and BfA the player character is no longer an adventurer taking down epic foes, but is himself/herself the center of the story, what with Paladins in Legion becoming the High Commander or whatever, and NPCs in BfA saying dumb stuff like “I hear you’re the heir to the throne!”
- Loot doesn’t feel special or unique anymore. In Classic blue quality loot you found in dungeons felt epic and could last you through multiple raid tiers. Epic loot was always epic. In BfA you can get a full set of epics from world quests and warfronts and whatnot and it doesn’t feel meaningful at all. Raid loot and Mythic+ loot is just an RNG game of whether it will roll with a Warforged modifier. Ugh.
- Every expansion / raid tier / patch invalidates everything before it. In Classic there was an incentive to continue clearing MC / Ony even if you had Naxx on farm (Thunderfury and Ony head for world buffs). Ony dropped tier 2 quality stuff so even the loot was valuable to Naxx-clearing guilds. Even MC dropped stuff that Naxx-clearing guilds would still want, stuff like Quick Strike Ring, Striker’s Mark, Band of Accuria and other loot that wouldn’t be replaced even if you had Naxx on farm. BWL and AQ40 dropped similar loot that would be desirable even after Naxx was cleared.
- Modern WoW for all the above reasons doesn’t even feel like an RPG to me. All the classes are homogenized, there is no longer PVP loot (pve gives the best loot for doing instanced pvp). MoP had the perfect balance where PVP gear was best for instanced PVP and Heroic/Mythic raid loot was best for World PVP. The only compelling thing about BfA is the Heroic/Mythic raiding scene.
already have stopped. BFA is boring. only thing I ever do when I log in is some battlegrounds. I cannot even be bothered to gain the reputation for flying in BFA because the two new zones are so boring to me.
- I dislike the “daily quest” format
- I dislike mythic speedrunning THE SAME INSTANCES OVER AND OVER AND OVER
- I dislike the absolute RNG of personal loot.
- I dislike how most class “types” play the same now.
- I dislike the rng of ‘weekly loot boxes’.
- I dislike cross server play, killed sense of community.
- I dislike LFG runs and LFG raids.
- I dislike what world quest have become, sounded interesting at first, but turned out to just be a chore system of RNG’d daily quests.
- I absolutely loathe the story and zones of BFA. so generic in comparison to previous expansions.
- RNG of warforging
- artifact power
- alts are somehow less viable
only things I like about retail are:
- transmog, mount, and pet collecting, but have literally almost everything
- battlegrounds(but liked them more in vanilla/tbc/wotlk/legion)
- how quests level up with you on fresh characters
I’m only coming back for Classic.
Starting from a few expansions back, retail just feel like Blizzard playing a cruel game on me. Get better gear, boss hits harder, then get better gear, and boss hits harder. This is made worse by the fact that they give you item levels on generic “epics”. Makes you feel like a hamster in a wheel.
I am looking to play Classic full time. I have had more fun in 24 hrs than playing retail for years. Retail leveling is way too easy. Since Cata I feel they broke retail. The new system at times does not feel my gear is improving. I had to keep older gear at time because the higher ilvl was not a better choice in options.
I love the difficulty of classic.
Yes BC and Wrath were fun for me.
I tend to sub for a month with a patch, but after 8.2 unless they fix something I might even stop doing that.
If they do things well on retail, I’ll play it. I liked Legion, I liked MoP, I was ok with parts of WoD. BfA is just bad.
If they keep up what they’re doing now, I could stop playing retail- but, I do want to note, I’m close to stopping without Classic being a thing. If I stop playing retail, it’s not going to be because classic came out- it’s going to be because they’re making a bad game in retail.
Yeah, I’ll likely be Classic full time. I resubbed in part for the stress test and in part to check out the new BFA patch, but honestly BFA can’t hold my interest for more than an hour or so.
Too many of the things that made WoW spark in the first place have been sacrificed for convenience, streamlining, etc. It’s clear the modern devs (all the way back to Wrath/Cata) have never understood what made MMOs fun.
I resubbed a few months ago after a very long break. I made a Mage, made it to 120. Got bored from time gates. Made this Paladin, level locked at 60. Been doing old quests to keep me entertained while waiting for classic.
At least I gave BFA a shot.
I’ve never been a fan of time gates, to come during the third season and run into time gates is kinda… Eh for me.
I will be ignoring Live for as long as there is time gates.
Sure we’ll get stuff in waves but I’m sure it’ll take me some time to level up and complete every quest I can find.
I resubscribed for Classic. I’m gonna play the hell out of this and hope BC eventually follows.
I, a 30 year old man, was legitimately giddy when I got stuck deep in Ban’ethil Barrow Den at level 8. I actually died in game, and it was exciting trying to plan out the next pull to escape. I was thrilled to spend my very first talent point at level 10, looking through the old talent trees and wondering which ones I’d want to spec into next. Slowly unlocking new abilities, occasionally finding a green, and each piece of new gear and stats making a slight but measurable difference.
Man, it feels like an MMORPG again. This was the game I’ve missed for over a decade!
Thank you, Blizzard, for the opportunity. Please, please keep down this path!
Why would I do something so dumb?
