I have a usb bdrw when I need it, otherwise it’s in the closet

I’ll be splitting this up once I get my 10900k, will take everything except leave the 660p in the 8700k

My gaming machine has two 1 TB SSDs (one NVMe, one SATA), an external drive for backups, and a BD-ROM. My other computers each have a single SSD and no optical drive (though I do have an external optical drive I use when needed).

Trying to limit my cable mess so atm just 1Tb of Samsung 970 Evo NVME and 1Tb of WD Blue m.2. sata.

I need to scrub them soon though. Got lazy when I swapped back to Intel and just crossed my fingers with Windows default drivers.

In my PC? Five - two SSDs (one M2 NVMe, one SATA), three mechs.

Attached, though, there’s another three mechs external for eight total. And four BD-RW optical drives - mostly because I got fed up with the poor quality of my slim externals, so I used Powered eSATA to hook up two more and just left the externals hooked up (because why not?).

Sometimes I feel like I need a server and/or workhorse machine, but it’s more cost effective to keep everything in one.

I have these on my primary rig

WD Black SN850 1TB
Adata XPG SX8200 Pro 2TB X2
Samsung 850 Pro 512GB
Crucial MX500 1TB
WD Black 4TB (HDD - 7200rpm)

2 nvme 500gb and 1tb and a 2.5 2tb HDD. I was thinking of getting another 2.5 1tb SSD to use for other games/programs and the HDD be purely for backup/long term storage.

I also have a NAS with 2 4 tb in raid with all my pictures/movies and such which I wanna upgrade to a better NAS with more storage or even go diy NAS with a ryzen 3400g or such and be a Minecraft server as well. If I only had more time.

My current daily driver is an iMac Pro, so at the moment just the internal 1TB SSD, which interestingly was configured as 2x 512GB RAID setup from the factory. Shows up as a normal 1TB drive in the OS, not sure why they elected to do that.

Prior to that though I was running a custom built tower, which had:

  • 1TB Samsung 850 Evo (main drive, macOS)
  • 500GB Samsung 840 Evo (secondary drive, Windows 10)
  • 250GB Samsung 840 Evo (tertiary drive, whichever flavor of Linux I had been toying with)
  • 1TB 7200RPM HD (don’t remember brand/model)

That tower has since been repurposed as a living room Windows gaming rig, and all drives except the 1TB SSD pulled. I use the pulled drives with a USB SATA hotswap bay, along with a couple of other SSDs in USB 3.1 NVMe enclosures.

I don’t know what yall do with all of that space, maybe I’m just an old fuddyduddy that keeps things as minimal as possible. I’ll probably never even use 30% of my 1 TB NVME

My steam library is extensive, and I hate redownloading games only to play them for 10 minutes and losing interest, and then 6 months later want to play them for another 10 minutes before losing interest again.

I just started a steam account a couple of weeks ago

Of my two 1TB drives, one is about 50% full, the other is about 75%. I have 6 or 7 games installed; I also use my gaming system for ripping my DVDs & Blurays, and Handbrake encoding. I’ve gotten a bit behind on running Handbrake the last several months so I have about 500 GB of MKVs waiting to be encoded.

I got 262 games from Steam, 24 from Origin, 14 from Uplay, 14 from Epic and 8 from Blizzard. Some virtual machine installed as well.

Installers, patches, drivers, things actually installed, temporary files, music, silly videos, digital photos, ISOs of game CDs in case my originals bite it (though I’ve honestly seen more DVDs fail than CDs), TV recordings I haven’t watched yet… plus there needs to be enough open space to process my movies and series as I buy them (but they live on a NAS).

Probably more than a few things which could be deleted, and I’m sure there’s some double-ups as well. But there’s a lotta years of stuff here - going back as far as when 8GB drives were considered fairly large (but not before, thankyou very much Valve and your ghastly uninstaller for the original release of Half-Life).

Stuff just tends to pile up.

  • Old music collection that I’ve maintained for 15+ years (even though I mainly stream now)
  • WoW w/Classic and maybe PTR
  • A few other random steam games
  • Several virtual machines for old versions of Windows and macOS
  • A ton of code/projects
  • IDEs for iOS/Android along with their requisite system images and compiler toolchains
  • Lots of other random little things

All said and done my main machine’s 1TB drive has about 350GB free, which might sound like a lot but can become restrictive when shuffling files around and creating backup snapshots, especially since macOS starts getting grumpy if you have less than 20-50GB free.

Only 3. a 2 TB Silicon Power Sata 3 SSD, 8 TB Seagate Barracuda ST8000DM004 HDD, and a Asus 24x DVD-RW DRW-24B1ST drive. Plus 2 removable 1 TB HDD’s, a 128 external SSD, and countless amount of flash drives (4-128GB, min and max respectively) over the years i have collected since school.

Wait, you have both or you mean a Blu-Ray that also does DVD? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

2 PCIe M.2 DISKS - one for OS, One for gaming, 1 external for backups. I refuse to setup any disks that require cables

Ah, a man of culture.

I don’t think I’ll ever buy another non-m.2 drive again.

I remember back in the day I would setup my PC with multiple SCSI disks lol.
