How long will retailers last on classic?

Only if those guilds are actively recruiting people who don’t hang around. That seems like an absurd scenario that would only come into effect if the ‘hyper-nerds’ of the previous comment had driven away so much of the player base that guilds were desperate for players.

This. We don’t want a tiny playerbase only populated by a dying breed of “Private Server’s were better” players.

This will be my daughter. Her mother and I are going to show her how the game was when we started (she started in MoP.) We’re making it a family affair. The only playing she got to do in the pre-Cata world was when her mother had her for a fishing slave. LOL

I had someone in a battleground say he couldn’t wait for Classic “because pvp was more balanced then.”

I’ll wait while you laugh hysterically.

I generally take the public opinion of the devs, which is that they don’t care if 10 people or 10,000 people eventually stick around. There will be at least a handful of guilds on every server that will stick around, no matter what, so there will be a place for those of us in this thread that want to focus on classic.

I do think that if the veterans keep up this mentality of superiority towards “retailers”, it will create a toxic environment that will drive them away.

IMO, it comes down to an individual player’s attitude toward the differences between Classic and retail and how that player handles those differences.

There is a huge difference between saying “It will take a little time to get used to not having QOL X” and saying “Blizzard really needs to add QOL X to Classic”.

Speaking only for myself, I am much likelier to help a player with the former attitude than the latter attitude.

It probably depends on several factors like : how informed they are on the grinds, how much time they have to put into the game, if they make any meaningful relationships early on, etc.

If everything goes perfectly for everyone, I imagine at least half will make it to 60 and half of them remain around for more end game. Some people might take forever (and enjoy the slow grind rather than burn through it) and be late to the party.

I think at least 25% of people who are taking classic at least half-way seriously will be around to raid within the first few months.

The elitism in some of these posts is pretty thick, here. Let’s just have some fun and play our damn games already!

Depends on them. I can’t say numbers, but, it depends on them enjoying how it was or what it’s become.

Yeah it goes both ways. Furthermore the classic community is at least willing to let both groups have their own game. Lots of retail players were posting wall of no, you think you do but you dont, etc.

Funny because modern players were mocking classic fans for even asking for classic far before no changes even started.

So who started it again? But its okay we know you like to slander classic fans

Tell you what. Retail fans can make classic like retail when retail gets to be like classic.

This is a thing sadly. I bet even some of us, the classic wow community, will get burned out from time to time having been spoiled rotten for 6 expansions.

I’m not really seeing much hostility from retail players towards classic, but maybe I’m not looking in the right places.

I am seeing a constant smarmy attitude of some people who played vanilla (or who played on p-servers and pretend like they played vanilla). I played vanilla. I’m not any better than a retailer who only knows the current game.

I agree we want classic to thrive, but they are going to have to accept classic wow is classic…

Who the hell said Retail fans get to change anything? This line of argument literally makes no sense, unless you’ve decided that the very existence of people who aren’t fully aligned with your idea will change Classic. In which case, you’ve failed to make a compelling case for why the Classic model is better. You’re just assuming that its worse and anyone who doesn’t like it has the power to change it.

And this will never happen if your opening move is to aggressively repeat how bad they are and how they need to stay away.

You missed the years of wall of no, you think you do but you dont, etc.
Followed by “classic is a waste of devs time and will fail”.
Followed by “classic will fail without x change added”.

That may be true, but that’s not happening now that classic is actually going to be a thing. Retail is not acting like it’s a threat in any way that I can see.

The point being is we dont care if retail fans want to play classic.
We do care if retail fans want to CHANGE classic.

Well if they are telling us the game needs ro change for them what do you expect?
Remember, weve sat here for years getting hammered by retail fans for even wanting classic wow, followed by classic is doomed, classic will fail, classic needs x or will fail.

If someone falls into the group of trying classic for what it is, so be it.
If someone is demanding classic change for them, why should we accommodate that?

Youve missed the retail fans who come in and say classic is a waste of time, development, money, and is stealing resources from modern wow.
Youve missed all the people saying classic needs x or it will fail.
