How long will retailers last on classic?

Depends person to person.

Since starting on a pserver I’ve run into people who have left retail and didn’t start till WotLK or later and are well into their 40s.

Which matters in regard to the whole p server players being “surrounded” by subscribers how?

i cant wait to get lost in sunken temple and wailing caverns, to be ambushed in tanaris by wastewander rogues, to get jumped by stitches, to do the missing diplomat quest chain, to do the crystal quests in un’goro, to farm argent dawn faction and buy cool junk from the quartermaster, to farm the crusader enchant, and make my first pair of red whelp gloves, to gripe about timbermaw faction, to run maraudon and get lost on the corpse run, etc!

not because i like misery but because its gone into old friend status, like visiting an old buddy that smokes stinky cigars and leaves water rings on your furniture, but ya love him

Maybe its just me but it seems like were being called “retailers” like its a bad thing, like they are spitting when they are saying it, like were less than somehow.
Stupid for supporting a game that both of us play, except were the ones that keep the lights on.

Yes my subscription supports Blizzards games, I happily pay $15 a mo at least to support the artwork department, this game is stunning. What are private server players going to call themselves when they too pay for a “retail subscription”?

Retailers will not make it to level 10. Blizzard did a study years ago and it showed the vast, vast majority quit before level 10. That is how we got yellow con mobs instead of red con in the starter zones.

First question is why do you think so? I don’t consider Classic WoW so hard as to drive players away.

Also “Retail” is the term the references you’re paying for something such as a subscription…

Considering that we will need a subscription to play, would not then we also be retail players?

I would put money on Modern WoW players stepping into old WoW Classic and becoming insanely addicted…

Heck I would say that a bulk of the Classic primary stable population will be those people who never played and presently play BFA.

I think they will last just fine; consider just how awful BFA is; if they can stomach that then they can stomach anything Classic is going to dish out…

BFA really is that boring, and there is nothing in Classic as boring as BFA, sooooo I think they’re most likely going to get hooked permanently.

hey hey there now. i play old school everquest. vanilla is fun. believe me. hehe

I have not touched EQ in quite a while, but the OG version was simply awesome. IMO way easier than a lot of people make it out to be… As long as you’re playing in a group like you’re suppose to.

Evergrind destroyed me by level 2.

I played Ultima Online. I was perma red once Trammell came out because I had so many PvP murder counts. Those were the glory days. My guild used to charge a toll to let people even make it back to the moongates when they decided to “see what felucca was all about”.

MMOs will never be better than Ultima Online. :sunglasses:

i have a 55 druid, 44 enchanter, 49 cleric, 32 bard on project 1999. its original everquest with its first two expacs. still old school. if i can do that, i can do classic, even if i am a retail player on wow.

The young guys I play games with today, are all actually really keen for Classic. They all know the difficulty/time required, and are all very excited to give it a go.

I feel like the young generation actually look up to our generation as the OGs for gaming. They want to do what we did. They want to experience it and talk about it too.

I think while the modern young gamer can be toxic, many of them are actually really cool people that truly appreciate older things for what they are (More so than our generation - I’m 31).

Realistically, classic and retail WoW are very different games. However, I’d argue that classic is more casual friendly (assuming that you aren’t running raids). Crafting, dungeon running, and alts for more of the same aren’t really a reasonable long term retail “fun” (and in retail you need to grind azerite endlessly). If we assume that people make alts and the servers don’t end up as “everyone is 60”, then a character who leaves off at 35 can come back and find people at the same level and continue on later.

Seems like there’s a lot of ego in people who played vanilla. Like a bunch of old guys sitting around a bug zapper saying “they don’t make things like they used to”. If someone likes Classic, great. If they don’t, who cares?

Those people weren’t even ‘retail’ players. The people who got past level 10 are the people you’re currently dismissing.

Can we stop with these “totem” measuring contests? It’s so cringey seeing all you neckbeards gatekeep Vanilla like it somehow makes you better. Let people enjoy things.

Oh yeah they are. It’s in countless threads (including this one.)

People in this forum live for hating on people that play (and enjoy) the modern game. It’s part of the Classic community’s M.O.

Clean shaving bro!

Ultimately it comes down to the player. Someone who likes a greater levelling challenge will enjoy Classic. Someone who wants to race through it like a single player game will get frustrated by the slow speed and low gold amounts. I would contend that there’s a portion of old Vanilla players who will start Classic and decide that its not worth the time investment any more. There will also be players who started in WoD who find the current game to be unchallenging and so will greatly enjoy Classic.

Lumping anyone into a given category simply because of their recent playing history is not only absurd, but voicing it to the people you’re insulting will actively discourage them and damage the Classic playerbase.

If the community of Vanilla is your most cherished memory… why the hell are people acting so obnoxiously towards potential members of that community?

just remember theres plenty of retailers that hate the classic community, before we ever even had an idea that blizzard was going to create classic servers…just sayin
