I still play Classic Anniv and MoP Classic here and there. I’m having fun on MoP Classic, even thought there isn’t a lot of variety when it comes to PvP.
I moved away from Retail PvP when healer sort of moved from the support/healing role and you had to dps more often. I enjoy healing, cc’ing and helping my teamates but never really had fun having to do regularly dps as a healer. Might be one of the very rare player that actually enjoy healing.
How is healing in the current meta ? Any healers that are standing out ? I always loved Mistweaver, but I will admit I was never very good at Fistweaving.
Currently disc priest is overtly dominating the healer meta. Their voidweaver spec heals as much as any other healer and does almost as much damage as a dps. They’re basically in every game now since every other healer is so far behind.
As for dps, the game is fun if youre a ret, hunter, fire mage, or destro lock. Otherwise you’re on the back burner.
MW seems fun! You can play a spec that relies on pumping out heals, avoiding cc, and dishing out your own CC on enemy healer with Para→Sweep→Song of Chi-Ji, and interrupts with spear hand strike. Maybe only zooming in for a Touch of Death when someone is low.
Not sure what rating you were previously used to playing at, but the game is pretty fast right now and will keep you on your toes as a healer. There’s not really much time for dead globals.
Every spec is capable of every PVP achievement the game has to offer right now(except maybe R1 3s? I’m not sure. That’s an end of season thing that 99.99% of players aren’t concerned with). so don’t let the doom and gloom of the forums deter you from playing and having fun!
M+ was the cause of this unfortunately. I prefer more traditional healers as well.
I’d recommend HPriest or Rsham right now if you want a “meta” pick that has a more traditional healing playstyle. Rdruid, Herald Hpal, caster MW also are more traditional healers but aren’t as good rn.
Voidweaver Disc is the best healer spec in the game. You do S tier hps with Disc’s strong cd kit + competitive dps often outdmging actual dps. I’m qing at 2300 in shuffle on my ret and every lobby is VW Disc vs VW Disc. It’s ridiculous, but likely (hopefully) will get nerfed soon. Pres Evoker does a lot of dmg as well but seems to have fallen off a bit in the meta. MW was playing a hybrid “kickweaver” build last season that did a lot of dmg but that got nerfed hard. Honestly don’t have much of an opinion on MW because I can’t remember the last time I saw one.
Honestly right now the healer meta is trash. Voidweaver is too good. You’re throwing if you’re healing as almost anything else besides Rsham and maybe HPriest but it feels like an uphill battle playing against basically triple dps all the time.
I still have fun playing retail but idk. I wouldn’t recommend coming back for healing at least right now. You can still try it out and find what you like. New xpac is in a few months and everything will change anyways.
return self healing/team healing to the dps specs whose fantasy it was based around and change healers into support with a broader focus on utility/healing instead of just pure healing
I usually play around the Duelist - Gladiator range, I achieved Gladiator in MoP and Shadowland iirc. Maybe in Shadowland I stoppped before getting my 50 wins because I was lazy. Currently well above Gladiator range in MoP Classic. Brutally honest answer is I’m usually a mid-high Duelist player and whenever something is broken (MW in MoP, HPal in SL in exemple) it skyrocket me into Gladiator range.
I will level my Shaman and my Monk. I’m sure one of them will be fun. I always loved Monks!
From a completely mid player perspective, it’s fine.
It is extremely fast paced, and classes have far too much utility to the point where if you are the main character of an Arena lobby, you pretty much aren’t playing the game. There are some outlier classes in regards to damage as well, but pretty much every class is pumping atm.
It does feel like there are way more melee players playing atm, so if you play a caster prepare to get trained 3/4 of your matches.
The balance of PVP right now is in an extremely poor state. OP classes have went unchecked for the entire season. The average round/match in arena probably is below 1 minute. There is no time to think out important choices. Instead things are won in lost off of one or two wrong moves in a blink of an eye. They really need to do something and soon.
Realistically just buy honor gear with as much mastery as you can, and crit when you cant buy a mastery piece.
Then do the same thing with conquest.
If you want to giga min/max, you can purchase heraldries with conquest to make the crafted gear scale to 730.
IMPORTANT:
DO NOT BUY JEWLERY (RINGS/NECK), CAPE, OR WEAPONS.
You get the jewlery for free with 9x crafting heraldries by playing the mode, a legendary cape for doing the 11.2 quests, and weapons for earning 2500 conquest.
Are you sure about crit for RSham ? I didn’t bother looking diff websites, but Skill-Capped seems to put Haste over Crit for RSham.
Ahh good. So, step 1 : acquire gear that might not be perfectly weighted in stats and step 2 : i can purchase the heraldries at the vendor and figure out how to craft them ?
