I’ll take being a mid range melee over having to be up against a boss’ butt any day. As a mid range dps you can pew pew while other melees have to dodge swirls. You’ll be fine. You want to be top dps and be mid range? Save some fun for other classes.
30% from one passive ability and 5% to everything else seems like a fair exchange.
It is, having a passive do that much damage wasn’t healthy at all
It’s not mid-range, it just has the ability to have less downtime during movement and slightly moving out. The Holy Power generation is limited to your generators, which isn’t enough to do a proper rotation outside of melee range.
The problem is that this doesn’t affect the total output when there is no downtime (a lot of other raid bosses), or when the downtime forces a range that is longer.
Ret ceiling is low compared to what other specs can do, and I think this ceiling should be raised, for all I care with a little extra complexity.
Except it’s far from “mid” this season.
It’s mid range when most abilities can be used from range. Other classes would love to have rets range and pump during mechanics.
Ret has an edge on a lot of classes by not having to manage resource. Holy power is a combo system and not a resource system like rogue’s energy. Imagine if you can only use an ability 2-3 times before being resource starve and have to pool that resource before you can continue your dps.
Want to stun? Not enough energy. Want to use a defensive cool down? Not enough energy.
Evoker is mid range, retri is merely not gimped as hard at mid range as other melee. You can’t play mid range and compete in DPS.
Except it’s not though, still losing DPS overall, needed to be 6 or 7 percent.
You’re wrong, definitely in the middle of raid, and in M+ it’s not the best DPS you can bring, it’s doing better than raiding but there are better choices.
Being nerfed while in the middle of the pack isn’t healthy, troll.
Go try doing your rotation from mid range and see how much DPS you do, you lose a significant amount of Holy Power from not being in melee range.
So assuming about 5% of your damage comes from cantrips and enchants and whatever else wouldn’t be buffed by a 5% aura buff, the break even would be if empyrean hammer accounted for 13.6% of your damage. Looking at logs, empyrean hammer in single target is accounting for 16-18%, sometimes more, of the damage breakdown. Empyrean hammer in aoe is closer to 25-30%. This puts it at about a 1%-1.5% overall nerf in single target and a 4-6% nerf in heavy aoe.
Yup.
This is why the devs have done so many reworks within the last 48 months and these problems still persist. I think the devs need to decide a clearer vision forward.
They can buff Ret again if they need to. A passive doing so much damage is ridiculous and the right move to nerf it. Ret is already easy enough as it is.
Nobody is arguing it’s not
I think this is the part that makes me concerned. Blizzards language implied they wanted this to not be a nerf or buff to Ret overall, but they just didnt do thier math right.
Its very strange thet there are a laundry list of 3rd party services that do Blizzards math for them, but Blizz still goofs up occasionally.
That is correct but it requires you play the game to understand this.
You have mid range abilities to keep pumping during mechanics. Wanna give that up and be straight melee like what you’re supposed to be?
Play herald of the sun and you will actually see a slight buff in damage output as I explained days ago:
your the last guy who should be saying that
At this point I know more about pallies because I am gifted!
your “gifted” alright
I am gifted with great intellect and I know my pallies.
