How is leveling broke

and what good will squishing it do?

In all honesty… It is like turning 60 and stating you want to be 30 just because…

I think it’s more that saying max level is 120 compared to saying 60 can sound intimidating to new players, and kind of discourage people from leveling alts. It’s more of a mentality thing.

I can reverse this logic. What good do all of these pointless empty levels do for the game? Epeen measuring contests? Confidence issues?

No sense tbh, and since it makes no sense and people can ‘‘turn the argument over’’ it doesn’t matter nor need change : P

You forgot an “N” at the end of your title.

And I honestly don’t think it is. I think people find the thought of going from 1-120 a bit much (Understandably).

You can skip them 110 levels by buying a boost, which is the reason why THAT exists to begin with.

Yeah, I don’t think people are too keen on the idea of paying 60 dollars for that.

I am tired of hearing this, so many new players have posted today in multiple threads saying the exact opposite. If you are playing an MMO you know there is a time sink element to it. You don’t start a game assuming you will be at end game. A squish will ultimately turn more new players off when they have to wait to gain so much more experience due to this squish. Right now leveling is fast, you want to change this to a system where levels would take at least double the time. So as a new player, what do they want to see? Themselves gaining levels quickly, or taking so much longer because some people feel that 120 is too big of a number.

They have lowered it so much already. Did you play in Cataclysm the expac with no content? We lost so much due to the sheer amount of man hours it took for the old world revamp.

I can’t tell if you’re suggesting people should buy a boost or just mentioning it, but either way, throwing the price of a full new game at a single character is a little daunting. It’s not a good business model to say “well if you don’t like parts of the game, pay to skip it”. People will likely just skip the game and take their money elsewhere.

Also, at least they’re trying something. I don’t think a level squish is the answer, but for once they’re taking their heads out of the sand and at least discussing that the status quo isn’t cutting it anymore. Maybe we’ll get some good from a debate on the issue.

Actually it is. If people hate leveling that much, which is a part of WoW as much as Raiding is then they shouldn’t be making alts to begin with, and this comes from an altoholic. If so, what would be the point to class rerolls if you can just create another character to 110 instantly?.

Besides this is an MMORPG, you’re asking too much from it.

Honestly, the numbers are small enough that it seems silly to squish them. Just buff XP.

People think a level squish will make leveling faster, but it won’t.

That’s a great point, especially the part where people are talking about just having alts at 110 instantly. Except literally nobody said that or suggested it; you’re jumping to the most extreme possible position on the issue, which again, nobody has said.

I’m also an altoholic and have no problem with the leveling, but I’m also aware that my views are not everyone’s views, and if there are some ideas to freshen things up maybe those ideas should be discussed.

And again, like I said, I don’t think a level squish will solve anything. The problem is, as others have stated, that leveling feels unrewarding. THAT is what needs to be fixed.

I would say a level squish is warranted if they dont intend new skills to be earned after lvl 100.

Oh I thought we were discussing that point, since you know you mentioned boosts?

And what exactly is gonna make it feel rewarding? Most of the content, you’re leaving behind. It’s there for new players and for people who want an alt.

Actually, YOU brought up boosts in your first post as an answer to the leveling problem, then in your subsequent posts mentioned just creating an alt at 110. That’s my fault for not making the connection that you still meant boosts; I thought you were implying just being able to create new characters at 110.

And I agree, leveling is there for new players and alts. Obviously. But in regards to making it more rewarding, it’s much more difficult for the developers to make individual levels mean something when there are so many levels. “Empty” levels was mentioned earlier, and that’s a tough point to refute.

We’re not really arguing a point that can be proven anyway, so I’ll say goodnight. I think we both want the game to be better and more attractive to new blood, and perhaps we just disagree on if that can be accomplished or if it is even a problem at all.

It’s more like turning 60, then declaring that a year is now 730 days long… so you’re now 30. It’s essentially the same thing, but you’re only fooling yourself :stuck_out_tongue:

Cuz as you said I brought it up, you quoted it, I continued with the same topic.

But then you beat the point of leveling to reach end game content.

I’m in the same boat as you. A level squish sounds absolutely absurd to me. Our level (120) item level and dps are small numbers in the first place. You couldn’t have hit the nail more. All that needs changing is a buff to EXP.

Its not broke just boring no matter what for vetern players after doing it 20 plus times.

If they made leveling efficient and gave the looms exp boost a major buff. It would be less of a slog.

And since you can choose to use looms or not. Fast leveling would be optional.

Squishing levels won’t solve anything. They’re pulling at straws.
