How is Final Fantasy's pvp, compared to WoW?

Title. A lot of friends and guildies are spending more and more time playing FF. I havent made that leap yet, because stuff is too cute for me. But, at the end of the day, I care more about gameplay, and could put up with the furries and cute crap if the gameplay itself was great. So…

Is there a pvp scene in final fantasy? Is it any good? What is it like? I hear there is no wpvp…is that true?

FFXIV has battlegrounds. they’re not very popular, tbh. But there is a decent variety of them and they do see some play. However the portion of the population that plays them is low enough that the players tend to make discords for organizing groups if something isn’t in fashion that season.

There’s unlockables hidden in it and plenty to collect, but stats are fixed there and it’s mostly for the sake of getting seasonal titles, mounts, hairstyles, emotes, and transmog. And bragging rights. And you can EXP Grind in them.

It’s really bad if you want sweaty tryhard pvp. It’s not competitive at all. Game mechanics are not tuned for pvp. And your class have like 1/5 of your normal ability pool.

BUT you get unique transmog sets from just playing and item level doesn’t work in pvp - so you can just casually play some just for fun.

It’s really bad. It does have the equivalent of 4v4 rated arena (albeit it’s semi objective-based and not pure team deathmatch like wow arena is), but it feels very shallow and kinda boring compared to wow pvp gameplay

Not to mention from what I’ve seen, people only tend to queue at certain times in the season (the first couple weeks, and then “dark week”), and outside those times queues get deader than an arugal horde bg queue

Heh

It’s horrible. The BG is completely dead.

FFXIV is more a PvE/Storyline game to me. The PvP didn’t look interesting nor did it look like it was intended to be in the game.

if you want MMO pvp, there is only EVE Online.

Final Fantasy is not for PVP

you’re more likely to find more enjoyable PVP on Warhammer:Online private servers than FF.

I personally love gw2 approach to pvp and wish more mmos would implement similar systems.

In structured pvp everyone is max level and has normalized stats, no gear advantage, you can make a brand new character and then join the pvp lobby and have full access to your entire classes kit

You then customize your build by choosing from a large list of amulets which is essentially your “stat template” and then choose runes/sigils that add additional effects similar to enchants/glyphs and then choose your weapons, skill loadout and speciliations (talents)

This makes the pvp all about skill rather than time invested for better gear

Of course the balance between classes and builds isn’t always perfect but there is a huge amount of variety in builds/playstyles just within a single class

While I agree, GW2 was not that great for PVP at the end of the day, it was a major disappointment and it’s a reason it never took off.

Bad but quick. That my take of playing. The other above make better info.

I enjoyed Rift pvp more than wow
not sure how many play rift anymore have not played in couple years since classic launched

FF14 PvP is not great. Every class is dumbed down and has like 1/6 their normal abilities.

I prefer those MMOs over what we have today

AoC/Rift/Warhammer Online/swotr were all better for PVP than FF and GW2 and any other super cutsie MMO out there.

yeah in gonna try out Aion classic at their launch wed. but most likely will go back to rift myself

Rift was pretty much my favorite MMORPG in that it “felt” like WoW (while some mmos are jarringly differentl). The only thing it ever lacked was popularity, it was better than WoW in every way.

And I was thinking of trying Rift again recently but all the reviews on the Steam page are warning about some company that just bought it and how that company will probably take servers down soon.

endgame in FF is fashion, not pvp.

I agree. ArenaNet did quite well with Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 in providing PvP for people who didn’t necessarily want to have to do any outside PvE in order to compete. Guild Wars even allowed you to create max level characters just for PvP gameplay. I liked the fact that I could do both on one character and not necessarily have to worry about honor, gear treadmills, class imbalances, etc.

Thanks.
