How far are we really off the last wow expansion?

I dont belong to your most people.

I love Vanilla back then when we were all new to MMO.

I loved Classic during leveling. On its endgame, it was raid logging. I hate it. Nothing else to do. I prefer all of Retail’s End game. DF is like going back to Classic… its similar to there’s not much to do… the good thing is DF has M+ so there’s something to do.

If you think WoW can win back people like on its glory days in Wrath, it wont happen. People were new then to MMO And new to internet and they love discovering new stuffs. That discovery era is done. It wont come back.

Players nowadays are divided. There is no majority. If Blizz implement something to benefit one group, there is always an opposing group that would feel betrayed and neglected. Whatever Blizz do, someone would be offended.

There are players who wants trivial stuffs and there are players that are serious with gaming. Current WoW has it… it has both trivial with cosmetic rewards and serious games like highend raids and M+. Just continue to work from there. Those hateful trolls, just dont listen to them. Whatever you bring to them, they would just whine.

Just emphasize to trivial players that if they want powerful gear, they really have to do dungeons. And maybe give them basic tutorials on how to beat lower M+ keys. Emphasize to them that M+ timer is so relaxed and also include on tutorial on how not to die. It’s a big task becoz there’s a lot of specs. Maybe find a champion player on each specs to design such tutorials. This way, new players would realize how fun dungeons and raids are… since 2004. GG.

Given the relative success of the “classic” flavored WoW releases I suspect Blizzard can keep milking WoW for a long time to come. As long as they can keep cutting the cost of making expansions then they’ll stay profitable enough.

Even when the last expansion is out, there are enough of us who have invested so much of our years and psyche that we’ll keep playing. Blizz can tweak drops and goodies to keep things just “fresh” enough to maintain a profitable player base.

Based on this, the game could easily still be around in 10-15 years or longer. At that point I’ll be in my early 80’s and that will offer it’s own challenges.

WAAAY off.
This has been going on for a long time and unless someone shuts down blizzard and wow or whatever big happens that shuts wow down… you are looking at another several expansions.

Sure the community will have dwindled by then but this franchise ain’t ending anyyyyyyytime soon. And as long as the player base is there, the subscription isn’t going anywhere.

I suspect f2p might be introduced once the game sees a big drop again but that won’t be for a while, I suspect the drop off is gonna be steady with the usual casual cosmetic and mount farmers sticking around as per usual.

But THINKING ABOUT IT… the age of the player base is getting up there so, WoW, if it doesn’t adapt, might not see the super longevity everquest has. Newer mmo’s, newer technology etc, might really bury the old gen stuff faster than I imagine.

WoW is only down from an unexpected high. When they launched it originally, they didn’t expect even a million subs. Right now it’s making more money than it was at ten million subs.

WoW’s chance to die came along years ago and they didn’t do it then, so they’ll probably never do it.

Considering Everquest is still releasing regular expansions… WoW has a good long while left.

These predictions have been going on since as far back as Cataclysm maybe further.

I think you’re right. If memory serves me, it started with sparkle pony.

I think WoW is pretty done for. I don’t see things getting better. They haven’t since BFA.

Blizzard ran this game straight into the ground. It’s truly a sad situation.

Unless Blizz really screws up an xpac the game will probably be around for a very long time. The player base is still much larger than the minimum threshold to keep a game going.

The most likely way to kill the game is doing a woke themed xpac, which I could see them actually doing. If they can avoid anything like that there’s probably at least 10 years left. It’s a good IP thats well known by the public.

It’ll never do WOTLK numbers, but it could definitely trend back up if they could really get some things right. DF is a decent Xpac, but not excellent. Raid scene is neglected and unrewarding for average players, as is new player experience.

Likely two decades at least… wow has very low operating costs and an extremely high passive revenue.

It might never be a titan like in classic-wrath in the game industry as a whole but its extremely profitable.

Now that Blizzard has made the game fun for a portion of the playerbase to play, since I guess they have no intention of catering to casuals or solo players and apparently wish they would just go away, it looks like they’re going to have to undergo a massive marketing program to attract millions of players who want to play exactly like the ones who are happy.

I personally doubt there are that many hypercompetitive esports elites to fill that gap. And given the recent working conditions issues that are resulting in employees looking for real jobs elsewhere, can they even maintain the pace?

The game can go on for another 20 years. There are MMOs with far far less of a player base that just keep on going. So I suppose it depend on how you define a dying or dead game…

I didn’t realize how old we are all getting…

Yea idk what happened to him or his content but he went from really creative machinima type content to … What everyone else does, he completely left behind the creative arc and now he just copy pastes. Its really a shame.

Not much longer now.

The cost to keep this game online is far greater than games that were designed for a much smaller audience. It has been estimated that the profitability breakpoint is 1 million subscribers.

In theory they could undertake a massive re-engineering program to rework the game and make it cheaper to run, suitable for a much smaller number of players. But that would take a large investment of resources into a game whose population may still be falling. That doesn’t make financial sense.

Probably sometime around never.

As long as this game is still making money, they’ll continue to update and support it.

So they can’t just shut down all the servers but 1-3 and put the game on auto pilot, well as close to auto pilot as it can get?

Also I would assume they see it coming or would see it coming and do what is needed to make sure the game is ready before profits die out. I think there are some signs they already are working on it. I was surprised to see them start the leveling process again past 60. They should of made it a permanent cap, then worked on balance so there is less work later on.

They just have to make sure to listen to players. What tends to happen is longtimers get stuck in their ways an will are unwilling to progress.
