How far are we really off the last wow expansion?

And I am after a serious answer,

I saw this cycle in Shadowlands everyone was all over it and how awesome it was at the beginning for the first two months, now a few months into a new expansion the forums are back to saying the game is dead, that it sucks and everything,

The fact though that Dragonflight isn’t THAT bad, it’s quite successful with lots of good feedback, obviously though my honest opinion is that Dragonflight is a decent solid expansion but as the guy said in the video I linked below it’s not going to turn the game into the king it used to be,

A positive estimate is if Blizzard does really good then we can look forward to about 3-4 more expansions before the game starts to wind down…just something to think about. Maybe after the 4th future expansion they will go full free to play?

It depends on what Blizzard does.
Will Blizzard make a story/setting that appeals to fans of Warcraft (both new and old), or will they continue to make it for themselves?
Will Blizzard improve the new player experience, or will they continue to neglect it?
Will they attempt to appeal towards those who quit, or will they continue to ignore what pushed people away?
Will they stop dumping most of their resources on raids filled with maybe 2-3 good bosses with the rest being annoying filler, or will they continue to only try and appeal to the raidloggers?
Will Blizzard actually invest in QA, or will they allow the first month of the next few patches/expansions be embarrassing buggy messes?
The fact that most people prefer to play a version of the game from 15 years ago says a lot. Blizzard needs to read into what made the game successful in terms of the one and the gameplay loop and try their best to implement it into retail and capture that success again. Otherwise, the game will die, and only the hardcore mount collectors will feel sadness for it going away.

No you aren’t, you are asking a leading question that presupposes things that aren’t the case.

The answer is “as long as Blizzard considers it profitable enough to continue”. Any answer more specific than that is speculative based on information no-one outside of Blizzard has.

It will be funny if WoW ever does go f2p, watching all these people go AH HAH, TOLD YOU SO, even though people have predicted imminent p2w or game death since like… wod?

Nothing will ever bring wow back to its glory days, because that model of game is no longer popular enough to sustain that degree of population. Put the expectation out of mind.

And how much longer will WoW be profitable?

They had a meeting recently to plan for the next 10 years of the game. Make that as you will.

Ofc its just plans, if WoW really stops making all the money The Bobster could cut that short but i don’t see that happening anytime soon unless Blizz comes up with another Shadowlands.

Nobody knows but Blizzard. Pull a number out of a hat, it has as much chance to be right.

Everquest is still producing expansions. So I’m guess at least a decade, maybe two more. Hell, we already know they are planning an expansion each on the other elemental planes(fel, shadow, light, life, order, and then whatever Zovaal saw).

Depends upon the creative talent and management in Blizzard . They can go on indefinitely

Think I heard one of the devs say long ago they had enough ideas or story to make 50 expansions.
Cant find anything looking it up now though. Obviously that wont actually happen and I dont think they were serious.

They can continue the story in a WoW 2 and WoW 3

Honest answer? We won’t know until they let us.

Even if they don’t release expansions that doesn’t necessarily mean the servers are closed.

You’re not going to get the answer you’re looking for from the forums. GD represents a very small, very vocal, and often very angry sliver of the player base.

The only opinion that matters is your own. Rather simply, if you’re still enjoying yourself in game, continue playing. If not, move on.

When WoW becomes unprofitable to the point where Blizzard can no longer justify the expense to make new expansions, that is when we’ll be close to the end.

But until that point, expansions will keep rolling out. As long as people play the game enough to keep it profitable more content will be made for it.

How do you expect any of us to know this? This game will be running a long time after a lot of people are long and gone. Just look at the first gen MMOs that are still running. They are obviously still making a profit. Do you know how many times Ultima Online has been handed off. They are still up and running and employing people. WoW will continue to run for many years and they will slim down as necessary to maintain profitability.

Blizzard doesnt know. They have no idea what the market will be in 10 years. Probably not even 5.

The only way they would know is if they plan on cutting the game while its still highly profitable. But that wont happen given making money is their game.

IT NEVER WILL EVER AGAIN! People need to stop huffing the copium and find things to enjoy about the game.

Each expansion is 2 years so that makes 5 more expansions.

This is the answer. As long as it makes money it’ll exist. Even if it makes a lot less money than it does now, it will probably exist. We are now in WoW4, in my judgement, based on the game’s style and evolution. There should be 2 more xpacs in this version of WoW until they move on to another direction.
