How does layering work?

I am in a relatively small zone, when I /who it has over 50 players in said zone. I have only seen a couple after an hour of mining… is instancing / layering on? Noticed this quite a bit in different areas too.

Yeah its on. That’s about all i know.

I don’t think theyve actually told us layering is re-enabled / how its currently implemented.

Yesterday i had to wait 10minutes~ for the enchanter on another layer to swap over to my layer

Well, first you get yourself an ogre…

Seriously, it may be quest-related layering, which existed since at least WotLK and possibly TBC in some open world areas. Where were you mining? It may be the majority of players had advanced a certain questline that phased the world to a later version of itself. In that case you wouldn’t see them.

I remember there was a lot of that during the ebon crusade questline during WotLK, with the gnome.

It’s messed up

So I have an alliance/horde same server

My alliance cannot see my horde, my horde cannot see alliance.

but we see the same person standing next to the person I can’t see

how does this work?

My server has 2 layers right now, I’m not sure how many layers are on the other servers.

The addon Nova World Buffs will tell you what layer you’re on.

Sometimes one layer will have a lower population then another within the same area.

My guildies first noticed layering right with pre-patch, I don’t think Blizzard actually ever came out and told us it was on but I may have missed that.

I’m not really a fan of layering but it is needed at times.

It’s on, but for some reason doesn’t help login queues lol.

I see, didn’t know layering had an effect on the open world. Was just mining in un gorro crater
