Agreed. And that is result of laxity as well.
When the culture is to be lenient in the face of the written rules, it leaves room for wide interpretations. That allows interpretations to fluctuate with our natural fluctuations of mood.
When things are stricter, there’s less room for movement. Even if there’s a mood issue at a given moment, when things are spelled out and enforced by the book, there’s less of a chance that mood will influence decisions.
The need to have a certain amount of laxity because of how the reporting works. You are probably 10 times more likely to reported for something if you are in a thread giving an opinion the majority disagrees with than posting in a thread that the majority agrees with you.
