How do you report a scam from the forums?

Earlier today I received a private message on this forum and I thought it was from Blizzard. It sent me link … and I clicked it. Nothing happened (the best that I can tell), ran an antivirus scan. Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. But there doesn’t seems to be a way to report that message like there is in-game.

There isn’t a private message system on this forum. Do you mean in-game?

It wasn’t in-game. When I clicked on my picture profile, under the bell “Notifications”, I got a mail icon. I clicked on it and this was the message:

We’ve promoted you up another [trust level]!

As an experienced user, you might appreciate [this list of handy tips and tricks].

We invite you to keep getting involved – we enjoy having you around.

Those words in brackets are links

What makes you certain that it was a scam attempt? This forum software does employ a Trust Level system (1-3) that you increase with consistent activity on the forums, and they unlock a wider variety of things you can do on that character (though, if I recall, it seems like they’re having some success branching that out to account-level?).

From the few details provided so far, it seems genuine. Notifications like that are usually sent by System.

Did the link take you offsite from the Forums? Or did it direct you to another section of this website?

Yes it was sent by “system”, but the link it sent me was a website that looked nothing like or resembling World of Warcraft/Blizzard. It was mostly white, I didn’t stick around long enough to explore it. If u guys want, I do actually have the url link. But since u say its legit, I do feel relieved but that site just didn’t seem legit at first glance.

As already mentioned, we don’t have a messaging system here on the forums - not from players - and really not from us.

That would have been a system message.

Did it happen to be the developer’s website Discourse?

I am seeing other reports of that notification being sent.

Okay maybe it had something to do with today being Tuesday maintenance and the link was something temporary? But the site had these in the address

and another similar one

That would be tips on how to continue increasing your trust levels, yes.

Yes that was the one. That site threw me off because it looked nothing like WoW or anything Blizzard related. I thought it was some sort of phishing/malware attempt. False alarm guys, my bad!

You may also see an activity link that brings you to this page
https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/u/R%C3%ACpley-kelthuzad/activity.json

One of the data items siplayed on that page is the trust levels you have reached. That data is updated whenever your forum trust level increases.

Once you hit trust level3, you gain the ability to post links and pictures as well as getting access to the Lounge Forum.

That’s good to know, thank you!

The WoW forums use the Discourse forum software, so the Discourse system directs you to their own website with documentation. It’s confusing if you’ve never heard of Discourse before, but you can expect these types of messages. You’ll see also see the green mail icon show up if your posts are flagged/hidden/etc. and it’s all perfectly normal.
